Painting rally wheels
I've searched the forum(s) for a posting on painting rally wheels without removing the tires--someone had a concoction of comet mushed into a paste applied to the tire prior to painting--it was a better way of masking the tire.
Anyone remember that, or is my past starting to haunt me?

Re: Painting rally wheels
I used a paint brush to paint on a thick layer of dish washing detergent. Let it dry and then paint. I used Dawn, but any brand would probably work.

Re: Painting rally wheels
How about deflating them and stuff news paper between the tire and wheel

Re: Painting rally wheels
I was looking in to this a while back. There's a few videos floating around that show the slow and painful tape job.

Re: Painting rally wheels
I've always used a deck of cards. Stick them in the bead overlapped.

Re: Painting rally wheels
All good ideas, just remember a tip about the dish soap or comet or something like that. The best i can recall, it was using the comet to create a thick paste then painting it on the tire. Once dry, apply the paint to the rim. Once that's dry, wash off the tire.
I just couldn't remember which forum I saw it in.
