Fender badge resto...

What's the best way to freshen up a pair of these? I picked up a pair at the swap meet this week end, and they are pretty faded out. My truck is a 1990 V3500, so it came with the bowtie and 3500 badges on the doors. My truck does have the silverado trim package, and I really like the fender badges better, so I wanted 30 series Silverado badges, but didn't find any. I'm not looking for show quality, but something that looks decent. Anybody have any tips on making a pair of these pop?

This is a picture of the style I have, but the ones I got aren't this nice actually.

If the chrome is nice, I would spray them whatever color you are looking for. I am presuming black at this point. Immediately after spraying, start wiping the emblems with a rag lightly soaked in laquer thinner. Hold the rag tight to your finger or whatever you are using. Wipe as needed to remove the paint that is covering the chrome part. Repeat as many times as needed to get that paint off the chrome.

Re: Fender badge resto...

I think I might look for a spare set on craigslist or the net and try to polish them. also wondering if they can be anodized or chromed if the polishing won't work.

Look for something (or maybe make something) that would fit inside the squarish area and do the same thing. Idea- medicine bottle bottom with a piece of stiffer foam. Wrap the rag around it like you would your finger/hand.

I redid mine . They turned out great. All I did was sit down with a small paint brush and painted the black back in. First I cleaned the chrome with what ever I had ( tooth brush with cleaner , Scuff pad in some areas, not to heavy with the scuff pad ) . And then I cleared them with some clear I had left over from the truck. They look good. The clear really made them look like new. The picture does not do them justice.

Nice detail work homemade87. I think too often simple painstaking work is overlooked in favor of a quick spray or wipe down. You've gotta be proud of those, they look new.

I totally agree with everything you said. I just got done un-spraypainting an AR15; and put about $600 in my pocket doing it. I've also built bicycle wheels. So tedious work doesn't scare me!

I like the work Homemade87 did. Prolly gonna go to town with a detail brush and a paint pen. Pictures to follow!

Re: Fender badge resto...

I tried a couple two three different ways of rehabbing these, didn't like how any of it looked. So I ended up just buying some Silverado 30 tags. So I may or may not have three sets of these now.

What's good as far as two sided tape to put these on?

Where did you buy your new Silverado 30 emblems? I wasn't sure if they were available aftermarket.

As far as I know the 30 series emblems are not available aftermarket. I bought two pairs of used ones, and one single NOS one, all off of eBay. Don't ask me why I bought all of them. I don't know why I did. I don't need that many.

Here is the NOS one...

I wish I hadn't gone so overboard. Oh well, I'll just list them and sell them. I didn't spend retarded money, so I should get most, if not all of my money back. The ones linked at classic parts are chinese knockoff junk. And the NOS ones on ebay are listed for retarded prices.

Re: Fender badge resto...

as much as we try to put domestic parts on our trucks, the reality is, something chinese will make it on there. i wouldn't worry about a fender emblem, it's not something important like rotors.
that being said, i don't belive Classic's emblems are chinese. the only thing i can find on mine is a gm part #, and Detroit, Michigan.
only disappointment-their plastic, my orig.'s are pot metal or whatever it is.
