body mount buhings

Hi all i'm getting ready to put new body mount bushings in my 71 blazer , i was wandering if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this without pulling the body. I'm working on this myself without any help . I have a cherry picker and jacks and thats about it . I also notised the body bolts are welded to the floor ( looks factory ) ? any help would be appreciated thanks.

One side at a time, don't try to do pairs or front to back, with the exception of the radiator mounting bushings.

Soak them bolts in PB blaster!

Yeah, if you dont want to cut the welds then you will need to raise the body kinda high from side to side. You will have to remove the fan shroud, steering wheel to steering gear donut and watch the bumper to body clearance on the opposite side that your working on. Also there are metal bushings inside the rubber bushings that you can split apart with a screw driver if they are rusted to the bolt like mine were.

yeah , that's what I was thinking , I don't have to worry about fan shrouds or bumpers , since I have the thing tore apart for paint anyway.

I just had these done and it was such an upgrade. A lot of the creaks and squeaks went away as well as straightening out the body.

Also, If you are using poly bushings be sure grease them up really well or they will squeak like crazy

I had the original bushings in my 71 Blazer and this is just some of the stuff that came out. There was a much bigger pile but I didn't get a picture of it. Anyways, it was all rust and bad rubber. GOOD LUCK!

I also had to rebuild the box for Postion 5 as it was rusted to nothing

I went with the energy suspension kit and I am pretty happy with it. Also one thing to consider is bolts. I don't know if you have new bolts are not, but it's a good idea to replace them all. I got most of the hardware from Lowe's/Pep Boys.

Only the odd stuff I had to order from LMC (IE weird square washer for rad core and the offset washers for the rear positions)

Here is a link that has all of the sizes and parts for you.

Re: body mount buhings

I didnt jack at all. I replaced them one by one. Prepare for lots of rusted/siezed bolts. I had a couple bolts that fused with the metal collar inside the mount and I had to get creative to get the bolts out. As for the tack welds on the bolts I tried a few things. Dremel, pounding, chisel. But what worked best was going to northern tool and buying a $20 air chisel. It worked like a dream with no damage to the sheet metal and I could pop one out in about 10 seconds.
