Newb Frame/Suspension question c30 GMC

I have a 72 GMC 1 ton, non-dually. The front cross-member, the piece the lower a-arms connect to and that the front springs sit "in", is rotted on both sides where the top of the coil springs rest. The drivers side isn't too bad but on the passenger side the top is rusted so bad that the truck is sitting lower by a couple inches.

2 questions :

1. Is this piece specific to the C30's or would a 3/4 ton piece fit (my guess is the half ton would not be the same)
2. Is this piece welded or bolted on, or both, if I could find a piece to replace is replacing it a gigantic task?

Wow. The front crossmember does bolt on to the frame, but you have to pull the engine and front suspension off. There are a number of bolts holding it on, including L-shaped brakets on either side under the upper control arms. Pretty big job. I think C-20's and C-30's are the same, but not 100% sure. I have to say, looking at the extensive rust damage in the picture, how is the rest of the frame? Are you sure it will be safe even if you do replace the front crossmember? That upper control arm doesn't look too cool either.

You also have brake hose issues. That is a drum brake type of hose that someone has screwed straight into the caliper rather than use a banjo bolt.

Honestly, if you are sure your frame is solid, drop the entire front suspension off the thing, crossmember and all and junk it. Then bolt on as new of a 73-87 style 1 ton suspension as you can find. It's a bolt on and you'll get parts much newer and presumably better shape.
