Rear End Differentials (Posi)
I would eventually like to replace or change the differentials in my rear end.. I'm looking at a Eaton Posi differentials in the Jegs catalog. I've heard good things about Eaton but was wanting to see if anyone had any experience with Eaton?

Eaton is the big player in that segment of the industry since they gobbled up everyone else.
Any advice would depend on how you plan to use the truck. I might recommend something different for off-road, strictly street running vs drag racing.

I know Eaton is the big name for rear ends, but I was just getting opinion on them, I have a lowered 85 C10, not a drag truck but a fairly decent amount of horsepower and plan to up it asap, its more of a street racing kind of deal around where I live cause the closest track that is in use is probably Norwalk a good 3 hours away. so streetable use.

What kind of road manners are you expecting and willing to sacrifice? Budget? Power level?

I bought an eaton style unit from a 70's camaro that I plan to install in mine soon. It's a clutch unit that should give good street manners. I plan to rebuild it with new clutches and tighten up the clutches a bit.

I'm looking for power not budget, but from my research I have done an Eaton Posi is what I am looking for not Eaton True Trac. more power and hook to the road. Like I said perform well if I do line em' up and race on Friday nights, ( street race we have a place we gather to street race). But I will still be able to use on the street for regular driving use. Do you understand what I mean?

A True Trac has excellent road manners and will never wear out. The down side is the off road performance can be a problem. A locker is better suited in that environment.
Clutch type limited slips are rebuildable and tunable and the most popular with the drag racing crowd.

So you are saying a Tru Trac should be the way I go instead? Off-road doesn't bother me, from my research the Tru Trac seemed to be for more for all out drag not the clutch style? But I'm not afraid to be wrong. What makes the Tru Trac better for streetable manners?

That's what I have also, I do some time at the track. i am very happy with the way it performs there and on the street.

You have the clutch style differentials? They perform well on the track, and on the street and no problems? How long have you had the differentials in?

It performs awesome in both places. I have a buddy with a 10 second Nova and that's all he has in his rear end also. they have more than proven themselves over the years as being reliable. Part #410408 is for 2.73-up ratios, 410409 is for 2.56-down ratios

Is there any maintenance that is done to make sure it runs good? or just straight install and basically forget it? But thanks ill have to look the number up.

It has to be setup correctly and the additive put in but once all that is done there is no maintenance other then maybe the odd lube change every few years.
