Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
i did a flip kit on my 70 this past wekend. And now i am wondering what drop shocks you guys have used.
I have heard to keep cost down that the stock front shocks will work in the rear after a flip kit has been installed.....have any of you heard about this? and what are your thoughts??

I used front shocks on the rear of my 72. on the suspension forum there is a good post on how to relocate them for proper angle

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
Fronts seem to work fine for me after the flip. Here's a write up I did about my experiences. Shock relocate is in there HIGHLY recommended.

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
Exactly, easy as drill and mount. Just use the mounts that come with the replacement front shocks. You may need a nut that will thread all the way down and some lock washers.

At what level off drop do you think that the shock relocation becomes necessary?

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
I use air shocks in the back of my 1978 c10 with the flip kit but before that yes use front shocks as they are a couple inches shorter

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
It's more of an 'angle of shock' thing 1972_K5 than amount of drop. Monroe recommends no more than a 30 degree angle from upright to work properly. If you're at closer to 45 degrees then the fluid can't move around properly in the shock to work.

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
I did this on my '69 and it works great. Front shocks, redrill the more vertical hole in shock mount and use new mount that came with shock.
In the thread about KYB G2 shocks a lot of people don't like the damping, but using fronts in the back on the leaf spring truck may make the difference since they are set for much higher spring weight and vehicle weight.

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
Do you have drop spindles already? 2" won't get front down enough for the flip drop IMO.
The flip kit lowered my truck 7 1/4". I have the 4 leaf HD spring which might make a difference on how truck sits. In front I did a 2" spring and the 2 1/2" spindles. 27" front tire 29" rear tire for the stance I like slightly raked.

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
Your avatar would suggest a 7" lift. Do you have another truck? Just asking cuz my big 4x4 ended up lowered to a 2wd after the crash.
I flipped my rear and cut a coil from my front springs and the front does not seem low enough. I will eventually get drop spindles so this info is helpful. Subbed.

Re: Leaf Spring Memeber that did a flip kit CHIME IN...
The Jimmy has 4" lift springs in the rear and 3/4 ton axles from a Suburban.
I have a '69 short step leaf spring truck with the DJM flip and it moved the centerline of the wheel up 7 1/4". Link to a thread with my truck in some pics. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=676571 Quote:
