Javelins

Well I finally got the Javelin home. Mom and dad bought the car new in 1974.I got to go thru the breaks and it has a bad oil leak I think is coming from the sender or oil filter. And a good cleaning.

It has been under the car port for about 8-9 years with dad driving it about twice a year. He has started it about every 2-3 months.

Re: Javelins

I've always wanted to have the car at my house to show some and dad never would let it leave . Now it needs some work and guess who winds up doing it. Out of the 5 of us I get to do it.

Re: Javelins

Having anything mechanical sit around unused will cause hidden damages. This car is cool and has a good family history with it. When you get through the issues and get it running well again you and your family should have alot of fun with it.

Re: Javelins

I remember seeing one of those over in Bama that was a restored state trooper car that was cool as hell. I have always loved those cars.

Re: Javelins

motornut I would love to see some more Javes.I'm looking for the original shifter also if he knows where to pick up one.

flashed, there is a guy that does have two original State Trooper cars that he done a LITTLE work on them to get them on the road.I talked to him about three years ago when he was at a show here.I wished I hadn't lost his number.

Even the Trooper radio was on that day and he talked to them on it.

That car was sharp looking.

Re: Javelins

Thanks nuke1.Mom and Dad took special care of it all the time. My sister had the car for a while till she couldn't get the baby seat in it and then give it back to our parents.

There is 5 of us kids wanting that car so bad. But they havent said anything about me having it right now.

Motornut can you see where he got his factory shifter? I'm needing the top but will probably have to buy the whole thing.

Re: Javelins

I had a Javeline like your friends. They were cool cars. It was red with black accent stripes. It had the Pierra Cardine interior, which looks like your friend has in his. It had a 304 in it and it would overheat. I searched and searched for the overheating source, finally just gave up and bought a short block at NAPPA. I started to move the Edelbrock Intake from the old engine to new and found big aluminum washers under the intake bolts. Once I removed the washers you could see where someone had drilled holes to make the intake fit. No wander it overheated.
Of course this all happened back in the 70s when I was young and dumb, now I'm just old and dumb.

Re: Javelins

Well I took it to it's first show Saturday and it rained all day. They called the show around 11:45.Go figure. Then they came around handing out the plaques. 3rd place it's better than I would have thought considering there was 6 others in the class.I'll post pics of plaque and car from another comp. later today.

Good day after all.
