Re: New Pair of Black Shoulder Belts
Here are some pics, includes the plastic molding and bolts. I bought these from a Board Member and decided to go a different direction and I am just trying to get what I paid for them.
Thanks, BAT |

Re: New Pair of Black Shoulder Belts
The main way to tell is the rubber boot. If it has a vertically positioned retainting dimple, it is an early version. I have been told that the coordinate postition of the dimple varies directly to the male buckle(67-68). I have also heard that during 67-68, the shoulder belt was factory option, wheras 69-up was a dealer added only option. The horizontally positioned dimple is a later version. (69 through mid-70s). Keep in mind that this is a very rare option and could have been added as a dealer added item if one desired. So, it's still hard to be for sure on exact application because anyone could have added a set up to one's truck, whatever the year. I have seen an 80s version GM shoulder belt replacement part set that uses the Corvette boot without any retaining dimple. However, if it's OEM, it will have a seatbelt date code tag giving a part number, mnf, and date. There are aftermarket versions without a date code tag and no retaining dimples on the boot. That's what I am guessing you have by your pictures. I hope this helps.

No date code tags for sure, not sure about the dimple.

Here are some pictures of the "dimple," both verticle and horizontal.

Re: New Pair of Black Shoulder Belts
Quite a few years ago I considered buying a 72 GMC Sierra Grande that had shoulder belts. Iirc it was on the spid too. Seller only wanted to sell the truck as a package deal with another truck and i was short that much $$$ so i passed. It was a non running truck and he hadnt even noticed them. I wish i had taken a few photos. This was before this forum was around so i didnt think anyone would be interested.

Re: New Pair of Black Shoulder Belts
FYI shoulder belts were a factory option listed as A85 from 67-70, with the vertical retaining dimple as illustrated by Richard in the pic above. 71-72 were dealer installed and not called out on the SPID, and had a horizontal retaining dimple, also pictured above.

Also, I wonder, if like the bullseye lens, if GM changed mid-70 from one style of boot to the other. Just curious based on conflicting statements from various members. BUMP for you. This is a good way to get a nice, new set of black shoulder belts. The chance of running across an original set in new-like or NOS condition is so rare, one can expect to pay upwards between $700 to $1,000 for it.
