Repro Bumper Quality
Looking at my original bumpers, they are fairly beat up on the bottom edge, both front and rear have extra holes drilled by the POs. I was thinking I was going to rechrome, but if there is a decent reproduction it may be cheaper to replace than to straighten out all the dings and fill the holes. Specifically we're talking GMC bumper in front and sport bumper in the rear. I know LMC has their "premium" bumpers, are they significantly better than their others? Does anyone else make a comparable bumper, or a better bumper? At less than $200 per bumper, I just don't see how I'd be able to rework mine and rechrome for anything near that, even though they aren't all that bad.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
The triple chrome bumpers seem to be pretty good.I would check with a BB vendor before paying LMC for theirs. Most of our vendors will beat LMC pricing and usually only carry the best parts they can get.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
I got my rear sport bumper from ECE as a complete kit with the brackets and bolts. Looks very nice. No complaints at all.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
Well that would be good, considering the PO also decided to weld the bumper brackets (and rear cross member) on as part of a cheesey hitch install, so those will need to be replaced after I have to grind them off.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
LOL. Mine had a roll pan, so all of the stock stuff was gone.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
I've honestly considered sectioning and widening '67 Camaro bumpers and installing with notched roll pans, but it's a pricey experiment, 2 front bumpers, 2 rear bumpers, fabrication, chrome and front and rear roll pans. Though I think it would be a pretty cool mod.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
They are good quality. Luckily you live in LA and have a whole bunch of vendors you can buy from and avoid shipping charges.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
The only problem I had with my reproduction bumpers, is that the metal is a little thinner. When I tightened the bolts it distorted the bumper a little. I fixed the problem by reworking the brackets a little so that everything fit better and laid flat. After that, no problem. The chrome has held up well.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
Got my front bumper many years ago (long before I knew about this board) from GSPP. It is still looking great even though the truck is outdoors full time and receives virtually no cosmetic TLC. I haven't checked if they are a board vendor and have no idea how the bumpers they currently offer compare to the one I bought.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
Have you checked the junk yards? I got my front bumper from a junk yard for like $35. It's factory original heavy metal, with beautiful chrome that I was able to shine up.

The back and forth pissing match needs to stop NOW. One thread was already locked yesterday, lets not do this again.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
I am using repop bumpers on my 67 along with the brackets and it fit OK, needed a bit of twisting to get it to fit up right and the repops are much thinner than the OEM bumpers. So when bolting the repops on be careful or you will pull them when tightening them up.
If you have a good set of cores and want the best result, then have the originals straighten and rechromed. Mine were too bent up for that option.

Re: Repro Bumper Quality
So the repops are lighter? Hey that's an advantage on the Jimmy GT, I'm trying to get the weight down a bit. Just so long as it doesn't seriously comprimise it from effectively doing bumpering duty.
