Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

Im thinking about getting a 3" fiberglass cowl hood to replace the stock one on my 72. I know that I will have to replace the hood springs also, but which ones are strongly recomended? Also I read that once springs are put on that won't break the fiberglass/stress it, the hood won't stay open without a prop rod. Are there any springs that won't put stress on the fiberglass hood, but can still keep my hood open without using a prop rod? Or anyother suggestions that will aviod using a prop rod, but still use the fiberglass hood.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

sorry, have not heard too much good about glass hoods. But just to be honest and above board, I happen to sell steel cowl hoods. But the advice is coming from body shops I have sold parts to.

Re: Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

How much would you sell a 3" steel cowl hood for a 72?

Re: Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

http://www.eharwood.com/catalog/HOOD...Bolt-On%29/428

Harwood lists a hood for '69-72's, but not the '67-68. At $550, you may want to weigh your options.

As for hood hinges, there are billet pieces that can be bought. If you haven't already figured it out...one thing leads to another and another and you learn that you need an endless supply of money!

Re: Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

It is technically called a 2" cowl. Stamped steel, uses factory hinges and latch. $420 if you can pick up about 2 hours from Montpelier.

Re: Fiberglass cowl hood questions.

Us body source sells glass hoods in light wt racing and heavy duty reinforced with steel. For bolt on they also sell springs for there hood. Also be aware that steel cowl hoods are not the golden ticket. Mine has to be pie cut down the sides so it will match the fender profile. So either way you go be prepaired to masage it to fit correct. Mine is a dynacorn from mothertruckers and was 365 when i got it. Also note that many places sell them but almost if not all are made by dynacorn, maybe not goodmarks but im not sure.
