Wiring Harness?

Well the more I'm getting into my truck the more obvious it seems that the engine fire has destroyed more than the 2 used harnesses I've bought are covering...

So looking into wiring harnesses on the suppliers websites and evilbay has left me more confused than happy.

Can you guys tell me what you've used and how hard/easy they were to work with?

It seems they all are priced about the same if I'm buying the "full" kit...

I like this one, they claim to have all the original pigtails and connectors.

Thanks in advance,

OK... You are going to get 1000 opinions on this. But most professional shops will agree... AAW is the best. That kit is freekin Awesome. And thats a good price. You will be amazed at the completeness and thouroughness of the directions, and quality. You could save about $100 if you bought Painless, but its not even close.

Re: Wiring Harness?

I used the American Autowire Classic Update kit. I was expecting the worst, but once I got started it really wasn't all that difficult. The kit included all the connectors I needed and even had a few new switches (dimmer switch, headlight switch, ignition). I'd definitely use it again for another project. I picked mine up from here with free shipping a while back.

I mean no offence and yes that would be cheaper but the engine & headlight side (which I've bought on here) from used trucks are brittle and broken/repaired and if I'm building this thing I want to do it once and not worry about chasing wires after the fact...

Are all harnesses like that? No
Is there a better chance there will be a problem with a used harness vs a new one? Absolutely

How much is your time worth is what it comes down to...

Re: Wiring Harness?

I got my engine and front light harnesses from Wes at Classic Heartbeat (site sponsor). The are made by M&H Auto wire, and are a complete plug and play set up with all the factory correct style clips and connectors. They even come wit the factory correct wrap, and plastic wire gutters for the firewall, and radiator support.

I am completely satisfied with my harnesses.

Re: Wiring Harness?

I will agree American Autowire is excellent. I've used them all, oem from donor vehicles, AAW, Painless, house brand ones, even replacements from Ecklers and LMC.

They all work, but AAW and Painless were the most trouble free. Oem harnesses are ok, as long as you get a good one that hasn't been out in the elements and or hacked up.
