Re: 92 and older Suburban thread for pictures
actually, the cutoff would be 1991 and older. and just so you know, you posted this in one of the 67-72 truck categories.
my dad has owned 4 Suburbans 72 C10 custom deluxe "highlander" w/ 350/350 (1983-1991) 1984 C10 custom deluxe 350/700-r4 (1990-2002) 1987 Sierra C1500 350/700-r4 (1999-2010) 1999 C1500 base 350/4l60 (2010-????) (sorry, no photo) my 1972 C20 custom deluxe 307/3 on the tree (2009-????) oh....the camper in all those photos is a 1971 Holiday Trav'ler 21ft and so far it has been pulled by all the trucks mentioned above except mine. burb my uncle had back in the 80's....4x4, 400 small block one of the "monster" burbs at the New England nationals last summer |

but if you just need a daily driver, i'd look for a 92-99 (preferably a 95-99 with the nicer interior). the aerodynamics are soooo much smoother and quieter than the 73-91. i found my dad's current ride (99 1/2 ton 2wd) on craigslist for $2500 three years ago with a bit over 150k on the clock. pretty clean body and runs great. 3.42 rear so a good compromise between economy and power and when you combine it with the standard 5.7 and 2wd you have a rig that can get 22mpg if you keep the speed down on the highway. it is a base model (ugly headlights), easy to maintain 9 passenger tan vinyl interior with solid front bench in nice shape and rubber floor. but it does have a full gauge cluster with tachometer. so far the (factory correct) mods include tow hitch, tow hooks, cd stereo (w/ aux input wired in), and still pending are 3/4 ton 6 pack rear leaf springs. future mods may include a tilt column with cruise control and maybe power mirrors. |
