57 looking for a decent 4 bar setup
my 57 has 2nd gen frontend.PO flipped rear camaro axle and it is sitting on frame, not sure what to do ..(BUDGET TIGHT).I have a little less than 1 inch of travel..I was looking onto a 4 bar system.. seems one for my truck is around 1500.00..i see universal one for 300-500 range..I was going to flip the shackles..but that will raise it too high..any suggestions???

Is it C-Notch for axle flip, if it is than try and look at air assited bags that go on the leaf springs this way you can raise and still bring it down at events. The one I have will raise the vehicle total 6 inches. This way you can save for a good four bar kit.

I did not even think of that ..I have a buddy who has a kit with compressor and everything...Thanks..BTW nice hog...I have a roadking but since this truck I have not been riding too much....take care

I was at a friend's gas station the other day and he was installing a set of Firestone air assist bags on a late model pickup and the setup looked pretty interesting for doing just that.
I am not bagging my truck but want to maintain a specific static ride height no matter if I am empty or if I have our bags, cooler and lawn chairs in the back headed out on a trip or if I get my teardrop trailer done and tow it. the overload bag setup seems to be the way to go.

I would skip the C notch and go straight to a step notch from Paul Hortons. Can't beat the price and you get to determine how much travel you want. Probably not much more work than a properly reinforced c notch.

I bout a 4 link kit from summit and put it inside the frame. It was not very difficult and I can run a 18" wide tire. I only had to do a small c notch on the frame for clearnce.
its plenty low and I never bottom out. Probably have $550 in the whole set up ncluding the rear end.....not the tires and wheels

i agree with buggy.
maybe $10 was a slight exaggeration ($10 over priced in my shop) but i am a firm believer in diy. motor mounts, trans x-members and c-notches are the easy fruit to be picked you save a lot of money and a whole lot more time fabricating the easy stuff i have a similar set up, 3rd gen rearend with flipped axle if your on a tight budget the easiest thing is to c-notch your frame i did a 3'' notch and it should have been 4 or 5'' but much over 3 and you have to modify your bed wood to clear the rearend and notch i bought the firestone helper bags for my truck, there was no way to make them work, just no room to install them i ended up with old school air shocks and never hit my bump stops any more

Got any pics of your frame to axle clearance, or a dimension on the distance? With a full tank of gas would be best. If your literally laying the frame on the axle, just helper bags ain't gonna cut it.
