Exhuast Hangers
Do you have to use rubber exhaust hangers? What if you used solid hangers with out any rubber? Im having trouble mounting the hangers with rubber on them because of tight clearances. I can easily make a hanger work without the rubber on it but I didn't know how much the exhaust moves and if it absolutely had to have a rubber hanger.

No rubber? Vibrations can transfer to the body resulting in irritating noises.

Re: Exhuast Hangers
Hi ecgate, I was a dealer mechanic for 30 plus years and what i noted is that when the car was on the hoist and exhaust was cold the factory rubber hangers would be leaning forward, and then after a hot road test and then putting the car on the hoist the hangers would be leaning rearward caused by the exhaust growing in length. The rubber as mentioned already isolate alot of noise and vibration. I installed a ls 5.3 4l65e in my 68c10 and did late model rubber hangers that look like figure 8's. Works great with no vibs inside cabin. I can grab the tailpipe cold and wiggle it around a bit, just like a late model. The better hangers last longer too. Good luck, Brian Fuller

Re: Exhuast Hangers
Having your exhaust mounted with rubber is completely correct. Never hard mount your exhaust. You will feel so many different vibrations you will think there is something wrong with your truck. If u look around on the web or even stop by your local muffler shop u will be able to find an actual exhaust hanger that should be able to work with the tolerances you have.

Re: Exhuast Hangers
hard mounted systems will fail in short order because of stress cracks that lead to broken mounts and draggin tailpipes
