99 305 vortec into 85 c10
I know I've said I wanna keep the original 305 but I ran into a guy trying to sell me a 99 305 vortec with 126k miles he was asking 500 bucks at the time. He then wanted to trade me for my 305 and 300 bucks. I thought was low ball bc my engine only has 50k miles. Plus I know I'd need a list of parts to make it work. He then offered he would throw in The tank sending unit and stuff from his truck for another 100 bucks.
Needless to say I found his ad again and he is now asking $350 What would I gain beside fuel injection? What other parts do I need to make sure I get? What kind if deal should I offer the guy? I have never in my life dreamed or know the first step in removing and engine lil lone doing a swap like this so I'd have to find someone that would do the work and let me be an apprentice to see how everything works. Will it be worth it in the end P.s. he still has it in the vehicle so I can hear it Posted via Mobile Device |

And don't count on those 305 "vortec" heads really waking things up - they're not at all like the heads from 350's. You'll gain a roller cam and one piece rear main seal, but that's about it.

So wiring harness computer and fuel pump. Is that all I have dual tanks can I keep that or do I need to think about a fuel cell or a bed mount gas tank?

Can't use dual tanks, even the TBI switch isn't designed for 60psi.
You're likely to spend a lot more money and time than it's worth unless you drive the truck for another 100K miles. |

I'd pass.....why does he want YOUR 305 when he already has one? Sounds kinda fishy.

hes building a drag truck, I guess hes wanting something easier the add power too. i was leanign towards getting it just for the dependability. but after the input i got i think i will pass. i just liked the idea of fuel injection with lil money out of my pocket but sounds like more pain then its worth.

???drag truck??? and he wants to use an earlier technology block?...the it's not much of a drag truck. You can add TBI to your existing 305. Do a search for TBI swaps.

I don't think he wants to use modern technology.

Re: 99 305 vortec into 85 c10
The puny roller cam they used did not gain the extra power vs a non vortec 305, it was mostly the heads. They use the same port as the 350 head, just different sized chamber and intake valve. Open the intake to 1.94 and un-shroud the chamber and it flows the same as a 350 head.

Re: 99 305 vortec into 85 c10
Sorry, Tom, gotta disagree. Heads are completely different castings and ports, not like the 350's at all. I've had 'em both on my bench at the same time, differences are definitely visible.
But I sure don't disagree on the cam... |
