5.3L running original radiator. Will it work?
I was wondering if my original, leak free radiator will work with my engine swap? I have soon new stuff to mount to it!

I am using my stock 4 core in my 72 Jimmy for a few years now with zero problems. I am also only using a clutch fan.

It depends on which radiator you have. There are two core, three core, and four core Radiators. LockDoc

Even if it is leak free... doesn't mean it is free flowing. 40 year old original radiators can hold a lot of crud over the years. You might wanna take it to a shop and have it rodded out, or maybe even a recore.

Look at it from the back side where it joins the tank and count the rows forward. You will see obvious rows of tubes.

Re: 5.3L running original radiator. Will it work?
Thanks guys I'm going to check tomorrow. I figure it's a two core because my truck originally came with an inline six

Re: 5.3L running original radiator. Will it work?
If it's a 6 truck it probably has the 2 row narrow core unit.
Either way, if it keeps the 6 cool you'll be fine. LS motors run very cool. |

Re: 5.3L running original radiator. Will it work?
I just installed a lq9 6 litre in my 1968 c10. I thought I would try the stock two core rad. I also am using Evans waterless coolant. I have a about 1000 km on it and no problems so far.
