Ball joint press?
Anybody with a 3/4 ton C20 found a portable ball joint press that fits and works. I've tried Autozone and O'Reillys and neither has a big enough throat to fit over the lower ball joint. This is on a 68 C20. If not, guess i'll be pulling lower CA's and going to a shop to have pressed out and new 85's pressed in for disc break conversion. Thanks. Jim

Re: Ball joint press?
Thats a brand name that makes tools like this.
Having done these ball joints on a 1/2 ton, I'd take them somewhere in the future and just have them pressed in and out. Even with the ball joint press mine were kinda miserable.

Re: Ball joint press?
I have the OTC press with all the accessories and I haven't found any I can't do. but I have made some of my own sleeves to do things it wasn't designed for. My suggestion is take a piece of pipe and some plate and make the sleeve you need

Re: Ball joint press?
The sleeves not the problem. The C-frame for the press isn't wide enough to fit over the ball joint. The kit has the right size sleeves. I'll probably weld up a box tube press tonight or tommorow and just use the bolt and sleeves from the kit. Thanks for the replies. Jim

Re: Ball joint press?
I used the harbor freight set to remove the original ball joints on my C20 a couple years ago.

Re: Ball joint press?
the one I have looks like that harbor freight one pictured above...its an ATD 8699...the throat of the "c" is 6 inches....it did the lowers on my 92 one ton P-30 motorhome...cant imagine the C-20 being larger

Re: Ball joint press?
I used the AutoZone press to do mine. I did have to use an air hammer to press the old ball joint out. The new ones went in very smoothly.
