Het guys i'm doing a reseal on my 205 outta my 78 k20 and the front output shaft slipped out the back. I got it back in following your guide but the front big bearing is a pain to get back in unless i hammer it in. Then it just falls back out almost. The case is 2HI but when i set it in i can spin just the front shaft no prob. But the other side from the tranny to rear axle it spins both. Is this normal in 2HI? I'm worried of puttin it back together and it bein wrong... Rant over lol Thanks too

so when you THINK its in 2hi youre saying the front shaft acts like its in neutral?

but then when you rotate the rear output the front output shaft spins as well?

did i decode that right?

Sisi. The case is in 2HI. The front goes clockwise and counter no prob by itself. The main shaft spins both but i can hold the front and it says still UNTIL i keep spinning. Then it locks up... It's weird lol

sounds like a shift rail isnt fully engaged in the right spot.
with that back cover off the front output shaft can float kinda and ont give you positive engagement of the collars on the shaft. pop 4 bolts in the back cover and try it.

id advise putting the front output shift rail all the way in to locate the front shaft with the collar. verify that the collar is seated completely against the, rearward, big gear side, of the front output shaft. that will ensure that its all lined up right.

alternatively you can put on the front seal retainer and bolt the yoke to it. that will pull the front shaft to its correct position also.

Put the back cover on to seat it and all is good. But it slides about an inch forward and back. Putting the front seal housing on will stop that right?

Just so everyone knows... It's 4HI-2HI-N-4LO... After spending 3 days o it i figured out why 2HI and 4HI are backward on my205, because that's how they're suppose to be.
