250 or 292??

Can anyone tell me if this is a 292 or a 250 from these pics? It looks like a 292 to me, but I'd feel better with some expert advice.

Re: 250 or 292??

I don't have another engine to compare it to so I was hoping someone could look at the location of the fuel pump and other pointers to tell me one way or another.

Re: 250 or 292??

Now that you know what you've got, do you have any plans of cleaning up the engine bay? Having recently gone through that, I can help here and there if need be. There's a great thread called "what does my engine bay need to get that clean look" that'll help you too. In the end, not only does it look better, but it is more reliable now that I've replaced wires and connections, hoses, etc.

Re: 250 or 292??

Is there a big diff in the 250 vs 292 as far as how they run. I was under the impression the 292 is a bit of a gas hog. I think either would be cool all cleaned up to original apperance. would anyone have info on the hp and trq from the factory

Re: 250 or 292??

I have a CHILTON'S AUTO REPAIR MANUAL from 1975 that lists horsepower, torque, and about everything else. If I can find the time, I'll list those numbers for you.

I have the 250 in my truck, and it's pretty bad on mileage but I think a lot of that has to do with the 4:11 rear end and 3 speed manual. I haven't run the numbers but my dad said the truck only got about 12 miles to the gallon.

Driving style plays a huge role. If I drove my 2003 Honda Civic (gasoline) automatic at 70 mph down the interstate I'd get 38 mpg. If I slowed to 55 mph I'd get 48 mpg and once I even got 50 mpg but I never could repeat that after putting on a factory spoiler!
