55 3800 dually
Hey Guys! im new here, i found this site while searching Google for answers to a question i had about my 67....
but since they have a section for these big trucks!, i figured id share mine with the world... it took me several years to get my hands on this one. when i did, i bought it and drove it home for under $1,000!! this one was used to pull a hay trailer near my house as long as i can remember. its never been more than 15 miles from my current location in NW Arkansas, since 1955! im the third owner, but i havent had a chance to do any clean up work to it.. and after i bought my 67, ive been considering selling this old Flat bed!! 1955 C3800 short, stake bed dually original 6 cylinder, granny 4 speed 68,xxx actual miles, but the engine was rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago! its all original except the wooden bed was replaced with a steel bed, and the seat was replaced with a newer seat before i got it!... came with a clean title!! all the lights and gauges work!! needs some glass work, and the master cylinder for the brakes needs rebuilt. but ive got the rebuild kit already!... this would make an awesome drivable project, but im losing interest in it! - i attached a pic, hope it works! |

Re: 55 3800 dually
didnt really want to, but my yard looks like a used car lot now.. gotta thin out a few, this old Flat bed needs very little to drive again.. ive got the new coil, if it were installed it would fire back up and drive... and ive got the rebuild kit for the brake master cylinder too... the tires are near bald, but all hold air... ive been beating myself up over the decision all week. but "YES" this truck is now listed on the Fort Smith, Arkansas Craigslist page for $1,800 OBO...
http://fortsmith.craigslist.org/cto/3933558336.html it weighs enough to get my money back at the scrap yard. but its got a clean title, and we drove it home. i dont want to see it get crushed!! but im not planning on finishing the project. so if i cant get a good respectable offer, i guess i'll watch it rot away in the yard!! |

Nice looking truck. Saw it when looking at the Ft. Smith craigs list, now your here. I'm looking for a tow rig to redo for my 68 Airstream travel trailer.

Re: 55 3800 dually
i just recently found this site while looking for information on my 67. i figured my 55 might get a little more attention in this heavy hauler section. it needs very little to run and drive again. i just dont really have the interest in finishing it. its really solid, only minor cancer specs. ive had a dozen people tell me they want it, but no one has followed through and came to get it! its a shame to see it just sitting here going to waste!

Re: 55 3800 dually
i had a guy come look at it Wednesday. he called me back a few hours ago and said he cant live without it!! lol. so im pretty sure i found a good home for it..
if it wasnt for the 67 C20 (3/4 ton) i drove home the other day, we probably would have kept this 55. but the 67 is mechanically solid and mostly restored. it will be a lot cheaper to finish it off... im all for the idea of having a nice old farm truck AND a pocket full of cash!! |

Re: 55 3800 dually
yes i did, and i miss it already!! .. i was kinda hoping it would have been harder to sell. if i kept it any longer i would have jumped back on the project and got it finished.... but i slapped it on the internet for $1,800 and sold it within a week of posting it!!... the guy was eager to give it a good home so i'm sure its in good hands...
and im well on my way to fixing the quirks in the 67 c20 i picked up cheap. like $900 cheap, and it runs and drives and looks good.. i need to post some pictures of it in the pickup section. its a long bed 3/4 ton, but its a nice truck none the less. the previous owner replaced the original engine with a beefed up 350 with a new intake and carb. and the engine is backed up by a granny 4 speed transmission and 4:11 posi track rear end... the truck MIGHT get up to 50mph, if you push it hard enough. but it will pull anything you hook behind it. literally, ANYTHING. lol |

Re: 55 3800 dually
Good deal. I have a C20 long bed custom camper, came with 327 and 4.56:1 DANA 60. I know what you mean about pulling anything. I opted for changing to big block D60 with 3.54:1 gears for highway cruising. Lot quieter too. Good luck with your project. Jim
