How do I get the cover back on on a sm-465 tranny
I bought a 4 speed tranny to swap my automatic in my 88 v30 Chevy diesel and it got stuck in gear Riding in the bed of my truck on the way home. I pulled the cover off to get it to work again and now I'm having trouble lining up the forks to get the cover on. Is it suppose to be in a gear or in neutral? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

IIRC forward gears need to be in neutral position and reverse needs to be about 1/2 way engaged. Wiggle a little and should go in.

Did that work? I've got to swap shifters between two trannys. So you just make sure both are in neutral and work the shifter halfway to reverse as you reinstall?

Do u need jus the lever or the entire forks and all? If it's just levers then push down on the ball like thing and turn counter clockwise and it'll pop out. If whole then yea it'll work

I really just need to swap shift levers. I have two, but the one I want to use has a long extension welded on.

Pus down on the ball. Turn c-clockwise pull out. Make sure transmission is in neutral. New one put in and push down turn clockwise. Should be good to go!

Some people push down with c-locks, crescent wrenches all sorts of stuff. I use my thumbs but anythin will work
