Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

I looked into getting a 12 bolt built with c clip eliminators, 456 posi, and a rebuild and its going to be almost 2k. So Im looking into other venues first. Anyone running a custom 9"? Where did you get it built, quality, cost?? Thanks

Moser housing and race/street axles $1200, traclock$499, 3.50 ring and pinion $160. already had center section and brakes. welded on my own leaf spring, shock mounts. Pricey but it should be buletproof!

I went with "Curry" Custom built to bolt right in and added a Detroit locker. All said and done delivered to my door ~2800 but that’s been a few years ago.

Re: Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

I got a Strange Engineering 9". 4:11's, Detroit Locker, nodular iron 3rd member, 35 spline axles, 1350 U-joint yoke and Wilwood disc brakes. I had to weld on the saddles to mount to the truck arms. Shipped to my door $3200.

Re: Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

Thanks for the help guys. Now I have to decide if a 9" is really worth an extra grand. I can swap the whole axles assembly in an hr and half with brakes bled so it really is coming down to preference.

There were factory Dana 60s in some C10/bbc/4-speeds as well.

What do you plan to do with the truck? C-clip eliminators are not really great for street/DD use as they tend to go bad after 10,000-15,000 miles. They're great for drag racing, but also eventually wear out and need replacing often. The 9" is worth the extra grand because of overall reliability and mostly trouble free maintenance. If drag racing or auto-x/road racing, go ahead and get the full floating 35 spline axles. If just something to beat on occasionally for the fun of it, the 31 spline is fine.

I also suggest upgrading to 1350 u-joints front/rear.

Re: Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

I just plan on using it for occasional drag racing. I have a fully rebuilt 342 geared 12 bolt now but was looking at somedeeper gears for when I do take it to the track. I will not be using whatever rear end I choose for any daily driving.

Re: Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

mid to late 70's ford cars (t-birds, etc) had 9-inches with a 5"x5" bolt pattern, practically the same flange width as our trucks, and they had disc brakes.

Re: Ford 9" Rearend, anyone running one?

Last week at the NSRA nationals in Louisville speedway had a 9" ford housing for a 67/72 chevy truck. It was in the new products display area. All of the brackets were on it ready to bolt in our trucks. No price on it.
