One more question about pulling the engine.
Been looking around about this, too, and haven't really been able to find out if I'd need to detach the torque converter from the flex plate to remove the engine/detach it from the transmission. Anyone know? 1972 c10 350 sbc

ABSOLUTELY! If you don't you will have a real mess. Also, you must have the converter off the engine to get it to realign with the pump.

after you unbolt it, slide your hand in between the flex plate and converter. Push the converter back toward the trans as far as you can...may be 3/4" or so.
While the engine is out you may also want to instpect the converter snout and replace the seal on the pump.

One more thing...
If you happen to slide the convertor out, be careful putting it back in. It needs to be rotated to seat on the pump drive. If you just force it, you'll break the pump, and then you're replacing the trans. |

You will have to turn the engine to get out the last torque convertor bolt,not sure if 3 or 4 on this model but torque will spin free when you have them all out.

Got the torque converter disconnected successfully and it was a smooth engine pull! Thanks a lot for all of the advice!
