496 on the dyno

It's been a long time in the making. What started out as having the heads ported/polished and overhauled only to find out the bottom end was in need of a rebuild. I was able to use those heads, edelbrock intake, q-jet (which is now an 800) and build a forged roller 496 bottom end. I can only take credit for buying the parts, I entrusted Bryce over at Dr j's to bring my dreams to life. it looks like we hit the numbers we were shooting for and kept it on pump gas, good vacuum and a sweet 800 rpm idle.

I'm working on a 'getting it running thread' (don't want to claim it's a build)
but i'm on a nasty time crunch.

Enjoy the video.

Re: 496 on the dyno

Looks like a very "useable" power curve.

Dont be in too big a hurry...hurrying leads to mistakes which can lead to ruining a nice new motor.

Always good advice. I've made plenty from rushing in the past.

Re: 496 on the dyno

Very nice combo, keep in mind bbc with cast iron heads can be hard to cool. Do everything you can now to keep it out of detonation. buy a big ass aluminum radiator,160 therm, and good fans or fan. And I recommend this to everybody with a hot rod buy a AFR gauge

Re: 496 on the dyno

thanks!

Already factored the cooling in, 160 high flow stat, new 4 core brass (didn't go aluminum, personal choice) and electric fans from Wes @ classicc heartbeat, edelbrock high flow alum pump. I don't have an a/f ratio gauge but there not a bad idea.
