Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
Ok,
I have a 1984 GMC SWB Fleet Side with a good title in hand. This truck has rusted floor boards and rust on the fire wall. Also has a few other "minor" issues. I got a step side 1983 Chevy today. It has a title, but the owner on the title passed away. He left the truck to more then one person. The guy I got the truck from lost the bill of sale with all of the brothers and sisters signatures on it. So the title is signed, but only by one of the children. 1) I was going to take the VIN number plate off of my 1984 GMC fleet side dashboard, with the clear title. 2) Place the vin tag in the step side. 3) Go to the DMV and register the step side with the fleet side title and vin. 4) Then figure out how to get the title done for the step side vin. 5) Once the step side title is good to go, I was going to either swap the vin tag back to the right truck, or just keep the vin #'s in the opposite trucks and have both legal, and on the road. The fleet side needs welding work, and has no motor or transmission in it. The step side needs the front cap back on, but is ready to be driven, "Now". I could drive the step side as it is while I build the stroker for it, and work on the fleet side until the stroker is ready for the step side. Then take the 305 that is now in the step side and put it in the fleet side when I put the stroker in the step side. Sorry for the confusing stuff, but what do you guys think? The step side was supposed to be a "parts truck", but it would be nice if I could fix up both. Thanks for any help after y'all brains stop smoking a little. LOL!

Re: Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
Ok then! That's a no go! lol
Just checking! I have both titles. But wasn't sure if I could get away with it. BUT, What if I wanted to swap cabs from the step side to the fleet side? And if I swapped the fleet side bed, with the step side bed, but on the correct frame? I would still have a vin issue. Tons more work, but nicer cab, and I get a step side, which I really wanted to begin with. On the correct frame for the clear title I have.

The trucks may be "legal" but you sir won't be. At least you asked the questions before yA did it and got in trouble. I'd just get both title'd on their respective frames and cabs and go from there. Drive one build the other then build the driver.

Re: Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
If you swap cabs you'll need the paper work from both of them cause the vin is also stamped on the frame. Usually close to the steering box.

Re: Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
Only other location of the vin, besides the top of the dash, is on a sticker in the glove box.
No vin anywhere on either frames. Just spoke to my notary friend and as far as he tells me, I have to track down the heirs of the truck. Looks like either....... A) Cut the parts off of the step side cab and weld to my fleet side, and swap the beds. OR, B) Chase down the heirs, and the second owner that signed the title and never registered it. See,,,,,, Old man owns truck and passes away. Another guy buys truck from the 3 heirs. That guy lost the bill of sale with all three heirs signature. Only one heir signed the actual title. The guy that lost the bill of sale with the heirs signature, also signed the back of the title as a seller, even though the dummy never got the title put in his name. The guy "I" bought the truck from did not sign the title (Thank god) A big mess. Worth tracking all of these people down for a nice frame and cab? What do you guys think? I can use the bed with or without the title.

File for lost title on the step? Long and grueling process but sounds like only option.

Re: Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
My 84 has the last six numbers of the vin on my frame by the steering box, on the rad support and on the cowl by the wipers. And it's originally from Alabama. You gotta look a little closer.

Re: Title Question on 83 & 84 C10
you need to contact your state police and or motor vehicles with the paperwork you have they will allow you to combine the trucks and issue a state VIN that will make things a lot easier it does however affect the historical value of the truck if you ever decided to make a restored vehicle Anything else is plain illegal and not condoned by this site
