1964 C10 Engine Suffix - INFO NEEDED

I bought a 1964 C10 custom over the weekend. The engine looks like it has never been out of the truck.

It is a V8 and has this on the front engine pad. F05IIM

Can anyone help with telling me what it is? I can't get to the back of the motor to get the casting number.

Thanks

Zach

Look here. 1958 283 built on may 11th in Flint.
You'll need the casting number. Use a mirror if it's hard to see.

Re: 1964 C10 Engine Suffix - INFO NEEDED

Per the chart in the LMC catalog, a 64 V8 would be a 283 and the only engine id codes used on the 283 in 1964 were M, MA, MX, MY.

Looks like you don't have an original V8

The F is for Flint MI.

IM was used on 1969 350 Chevy/powerglide taxi. Not sure where IIM comes from.

Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get the casting number later.

Check also for a date/clock marking on the block. I think the V8 have them on there just like the I6s. Should give you the month/year the block was cast.

I think you mean F0511M, not F05IIM. Its a Flint block made in May 11 with the engine suffix "M" which was a 64 283 v8. So it is probably the correct engine for your truck. You will need the casting #. As F0511M is the engine code stamping #.

Re: 1964 C10 Engine Suffix - INFO NEEDED

The engine suffix is usually 2-3 letters and sometimes a number.

Makes a lot more sense than a 69 350 taxi motor. I was wonderin what happened to the day/month code and 11 makes much more sense than II.

M would be the correct suffix for 1964.

I think I'm corrected!
