C10 Drop with 20's?
Any ideas for help on finding cheap drops?
I heard in the wind finding some new (year?) jeep I can swap out jeep rear springs for mine and the drop I need will work?? I'll probably go 4x6 to level out with the 20's...... Another idea is; cut off one loop on the front spring and that should drop a bit. Any tips?? Pics to come soon! |

You cant cut the rear springs as they are tapered on both ends. I pooked into jeep coils but saw most people werent happy with them. Keep an eye on the parts board or post a wtb. I have bought a new cpp 2.5/4 complete kit with springs and shocks for one truck for $300, 2.5" dropped spindles for $200 and a set of 4" drop rear spings for another truck for $50 on here.

Just buy some droped springs for all 4 corners.

and I'm somewhat new to the whole "watching the board for sales"...so i'll try to keep uptodate there! What year did you buy the 4" rear springs for?? And I was trying to get by without buying spindles.... :-\ butttt that could be one of my best options for the front end for sure! So I do thank you of your time! I'll upload photos here, hopefully in the next few weeks when the drop happens with the new tires! |

This truck was dropped with McGaughy 2" springs in the front and 4" springs in the rear, with nothing else done. It cost $250.

This truck was dropped by heating the springs. The safety violation coalition will be here shortly telling you how your soul will be forever forsaken for even considering heating a spring, but we've done it on dozens of vehicles for 20+ years with no issues except a subpar ride. This truck was dropped 5 years ago by heating the springs, and the guy that bought it from me has driven it daily since he bought it from in 2010.
The bottom line is if you can scratch up $250, the springs are a far better choice for ride quality and handling. If you can't, heated springs won't ride as good and will have more body roll that a truck with drop springs, but they are not nearly as bad as lot of stock cars from the era. Notice in the 2nd pic that the red truck sat lower, and rode better than the blue one...

A coil spring was once a long piece of wire. It works kinda like a lever. Think of a diving board. (Bound /Rebound ) say its 8ft long and the guy on the end weighs 250lbs.. he jumps and lands and is sprung back up.
Now shorten the diving board.. 7ft, same guy. He has to jump higher and harder to go the same height because of that flex that's now gone... the lever is stiffer. See where I'm going? .. cut a turn out and the ride will get stiffer. If you're OK with that (?) That's cool.. just trying to help. My truck has cut springs in it.. just saying. Jeep TJ springs will drop it about 4 inches but it will be very bouncy. Chevelle springs are the same fit too but still very soft. What year is the truck? Disc brakes up front? Okay, wow, thanks again for the needed info!
I've got a 69 with 69 rear end drums. (I'm swapping out my rear with a 93 rear end still with drums, only better gears and it has 5 lug, where I had a rear 6 lug) Im also swapping out my 69 front end with a 71 front end(5lug), only the "A" arms, disc, and original spindles. So trying to find the cheaper way for now to drop. So the plan is to cut a loop in the front springs and heat the rear. Which, i'm going for a 4 drop front, 6 rear. so yes, it just clicked, dropping 6 in the back is to much heating I bet....hmmm......(i'm just pondering as i'm typing)..... so yeah wow, as i'm typing its clicking i'm going to have to find a new rear spring to drop 6 I bet? And cutting the front, one loop might not be enough...? to match 4inch drop. Sooo for now the plan is...... first step: "swap front and rear end, get brakes working" second step: "mount 20's with tires and measure the needed drop and look for the parts/buy the drop:-s. lol And yes, the information you guys have given me will NO DOUBT be used!! The 69 I have now had heated springs on it and they had collapsed coil to coil and were arched majorly. Chunked all the suspension and went with ECE stuff.

If you buy springs, it seems that the McGaughy springs set the lower than CPP or ECE springs, even though they are advertised the same. My friend and I dropped our trucks within a few weeks of each other, and I went with McGaughy 2/4's and he went with ECE 2/4's. My truck sat lower by about an inch, and he cut a half a round off his spring and installed a 1" spacer under the rearend to get where mine was. My 2/4 springs dropped my truck more than 2/4. Okay I got you! and your truck is looking good! I like that drop! i'll try to remember that; 2/4.
I guess like I said earlier I'll have to put the wheels on it first, measure, and then drop by cut in front probably and buy the rear drop I would say! I'll keep that brand you told me about that drops better to! This weekend I'll begin the swap on the front end! So I'll try to upload photos to show the progress to keep you guys in tune! Could you guys through me a link to the best brand on rear springs, and a front end, possible spindles sites. ( Hopefully a cute will do all I need for now) Oh, yeah, and a site maybe for best bet on getting moldings? I've looked around, and there all pretty Price$$ but I thought maybe you guys had a site in mind I didn't!? Thanks! |

Do you will have to do that in the User Control Panel "User CP" button at the top of the page to set your profile pic, avatar (which will have to be a resized pic), and signature.
