Porterbuilt Hood Hinge Question

I have the kit with gas assist I got for my 71. I installed the everything, got it adjusted and aligned. Than I couldn't get the hood open enough to get my hand under it to lift it up. Did I do something wrong?

How are you guys getting the hood to pop up enough so you can lift the hood open?

On my truck I have to lift up on the front GMC emblem to open it. Mine barely pops up at all. I am still running stock hinges. Did yours work better before you changed hinges?

Yes the stock hinges worked fine. Just needed to go lower

Well I left a message with Porterbuilt yesterday but haven't gotten a call from anyone yet. Needing to drive my truck tomorrow, I decided to try and use a spare set of shaved door pushers I had left over from another project. They worked great. They pushed the hood up just enough to allow me to get my fingers between the hood and grille. This allowed me to get under the hood to lift it.

I'm not sure why I couldn't lift my hood after installing the PB hood hinges but at least it's working now[IMG][/IMG]

I'm sure Nate will get back to you. He has always been VERY good at returning my phone calls even on weekends. I have those on my Suburban and haven't had any issues. Looks like your fix is a pretty good idea though!

Yea I'm sure he'll get back with me sooner or later but I had to come up with a quick fit if I wanted to go to a show tomorrow.

My hood is a huge pain to open...i have to wedge my fingers in there and pull as hard as possible...sometimes i have to get a 2x4 from underneath and push up. I still have not found and way to get the hood to pop open.

stick the 2x4 in at the wheel and have someone else hit the hood release...two man job=ghetto fab

How hard were those hinges to locate to firewall and hood and get just right and mounted?

Wasn't too hard to get it aligned. Since I don't have fender wells I could close my hood and mark the upper hood plate locations from underneath. Than I welded the upper plates to the hood. It's not the official way to do it but it worked for me.

sounds like you have an issue with the spring assembly on the latch? I have no shock assist pb hinges and it pops up when the latch is released.

Thats the way to do it. I'll do it that way next time.

I have a spring on the latch assembly that helps it pop up

adjust your stops on the front on the grill and install new rubber hood bumpers on the fenders and it will pop right up or at least it worked for me

hi guys!! I have one question, is that mod expensive?? I really hate my hood hinges, I can't get them to work properly, they have already fixed 'em 3 or 4 times and I'm just waiting for the fifth time. Do you know a site that sends parts to Mexico?? And is it possible they don't charge me more money for delivery than the part itself?? thanks!!
