Centrifugal Advance Sticking
I've been through 2 different GM mechanical advance spring and weight kits so far, and can't seem to get any to work! With this accel kit I've been using recently, every time I tighten the rotor down completely (which is just until the bolt head contacts the rotor and I feel resistance), the mechanical advance just sticks. I can force it forward without effort using my hand, but it won't spring back unless I give it a push. All I have to do is back both the rotor screw back a couple turns and the advance springs back smoothly again.
On another note, the $15 accel kit I bought was advertised to make 24 degrees at 3000 rpms. With light springs I make 4 degrees at around 2500 rpms, and with one light one medium I make about 8 degrees at 4000. At least the $5 summit kit I had before actually worked... (tired of Chinese crap metal) What kit should I buy to just get the timing over with? I'm tired of the problems that come with saving money. I just want 24 degrees at 3000 rpms.

Re: Centrifugal Advance Sticking
The stock hei weights are just fine. Just Change the springs really. What are you trying to accomplish? Trying to limit max advance? Get timing in sooner?

I had a rusty friction area, caused me probs and had an oily goo sticking advance in the can as well ,gave up and replaced the dizzy all at once
