Anyone working on a truck must read!
To all of you that have posted your build projects on here, THANK YOU!!! I'm a newbie to the 60-66 body style and I have to say I have learned....quickly, it is by far better to read for a couple hours than to hack up new or existing parts trying to figure it out. The build sites are a fantastic wealth of how to do's and what not to do's. So to any and all, if you're planning on doing something, check around here first. Most likely someone has done it and it will make your life SO much easier. FANTASTIC SITE! once again, thank you for sharing your info with us, it may feel silly doing it but it helps so many others when they embark on the road to whatever project lies ahead. I'm looking forward to posting my build, as soon as I can figure out how to put up pic's. It should be a good one as far as here's how you shouldn't do it goes.

Welcome to the board! Here's the FAQ on posting pics. If you still have trouble after reading that, let us know and we'll figure it out.

Re: Anyone working on a truck must read!
Welcome aboard! I completely agree with your comments. This is the best forum I have ever participated in. Not only nice people, we have a number of members that have their Phd in Chevy/GMC trucks. I also found this forum after I started my build and agree that I would have done quite a few things differently had I learned from this site before I started.
Looking forward to seeing your build. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Anyone working on a truck must read!
Thanks to all for the welcomes. I find myself getting caught up reading everyone elses builds that I'm not getting to my own. I figure I'm going to try and get some stuff done on mine before I post pics. I'm disabled, (14 discs either torn,herniated,bulging,etc.etc.) so my schedule goes a little like this. Get out of bed, take meds. Sit in recliner with ice pack, check out the board and have my coffee, when my back is frozen I can go out and work for a while. Then I come back in, ice pack, pain meds, sorta like wash rinse repeat. All day , every day...So my build is gonna be kinda slow. I figure I'll get at least some things done and then I'll post some pics a little at a time so it looks like I'm actually getting something accomplished. Is that cheating? If so then I will start an official build page Immediately! I admire all the talent on here and have absolutely NO problem with constructive criticism. I will be picking a lot of brains and sometimes due to the meds I'm on it may take awhile to sink in so bear with me. Once again, thanks for the welcomes.

Re: Anyone working on a truck must read!
First up waiting for accomplishments to begin posting isn’t cheating, but it’s not best practice either. Members here love photos and certainly “before” photos, even if the truck starts out as nothing but a pile of parts. And taking lots of before pictures should be a high priority especially if this is your first project. Most of us have experienced “builder’s remorse” at some point when there are tons of progress and/or completion photos, but nothing showing what it looked like in the beginning.
So I’ll look forward to the start of your build thread right away! And any progress is progress. Some guys build entire trucks in a matter or weeks or months, while others chip away over years to get theirs done. I like reviewing build updates on a daily basis whether the input is huge or tiny. Even at 65 I seek to learn something new every day, and frequently do. And there’s so much to see I can’t keep up with it all, or I get caught up with my own stuff and miss out on what’s going on. So no update is too small to post. If someone isn’t interested they don’t have to read it! Other’s probably will. And I’ll say it again here - kudos for persevering the reality of habitual pain, where just enduring can be a notable milestone. In my youth I adopted Marine Corps doctrine that if an ordinary person can accomplish everything with infinite resources, Marines can accomplish even more with absolutely nothing. It’s just going to be more difficult, probably take longer, and is likely to involve pain at some point. I’ve never accepted that nearly everything I attempt is impossible, it’s just going to be more difficult . . . . . ![]()
