Buckets to Bench Seat
I know this sounds strange. I'm interested in purchasing a 79 GMC Sierra with factory bucket seats and console and I'd like to put a bench seat in place of the buckets and console. Does anyone know if a bench seat from a similar year (73-?) will bolt right in? I don't mind having the extra holes from the factory in the floor, I just don't want to add any new holes.
The current owner told me that the truck already has a middle seat belt installed from the factory. This seemed a little strange to me, but perhaps that is the case. Any knowledge on this would be helpful as well. Thanks |

Re: Buckets to Bench Seat
That does sound strange. You'll be missing out using a bench seat, which is why most people convert to buckets. You get a center console, and more support out of buckets. Those old poopy bench seats were just a hold over from another time, when safety and functionality were at a minimum. Notice you don't see 'em around anymore except in older vehicles. They look kinda cool, but that's pretty much where it ends. Just my .02

Re: Buckets to Bench Seat
Your 77 bench seat should bolt right in. You just won't be using the bucket floor towers for the inside bucket tracks. All of the trucks came with the center seat belt. I understand that you need a bench seat to be able to have the 3rd passenger and is probably the reason for the change. If you sign up as a member here you can list the bucket tracks and make a few bucks.

Re: Buckets to Bench Seat
Thanks KrazyRay,
You are exactly right I'm looking to carry three people. If I have to choose between sharing the ride with family or style and comfort, I'll choose family every time. If I can, I'll hold on to the buckets and console for the day when I sell the truck, but it is nice to know that they can fetch a pretty penny. |

I have a n '86 K-30 crew cab that I purchased as a project truck. I thought about bench seats with some function. You may find the link useful. They sell the frames to mount to the cab as well. |

Re: Buckets to Bench Seat
Thanks NM Mike. Wow that company has lots of options for seats and it sounds like what they don't have, they'll make. If I don't find a decent stock bench seat in my area, I'll contact them.

Re: Buckets to Bench Seat
i disagree bench seats are great, having your girl right next to your side, being able to camp in your truck, having room to spread out. Bench seats are the best.
