I have a small block chevy can't see number to decode it, today I bought some valve cover for 307 which I think it is? New valve cover the holes for bolts are even on both sides, the old ones are off set on the one side... So what size do I have?

Hard to say without any casting numbers, but the staggered holes were late 50s- early 60s.

The Corvette world says the staggered bolt heads were used until early 1959 on the 283s. I imagine the earlier 265s also used staggered bolt heads. There were no emissions of any kind on these engines. Your valve cover has been modified for emissions. My guess you have a later SBC block with 283 or 265 heads.

Hi!! you should see this http://www.fastnuf.com/Headguide.html . Look at the front of the head, there is a geometric pattern, then compare it to the image on the page I post, and at least you will see which heads are on your engine
