Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Just about all of my questions I have about my truck have been answered just by searching but I cant find this one.
I am putting my rear end back in my truck and I am having a brain fart as to how my rear coil springs go back in. They are stock variable rate coil springs. Is there a difference between top and bottom? Left vs. right? Also do they need to be 'clocked'? (how they sit on the frame and control arm) The bad thing is I even took pics so I wouldn't forget but I cant find them! Any pics and information explaining this will be greatly appreciated!! |

Here you go, CPP does alot of how's to on our truck and figure this might help you out even though its a lowering spring they are installing.

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Thanks for the reply. I've been looking around for articles like that but none of the pics are very good. Does anyone else have some better pics? I just want to be 100% sure before I put it all back together.

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Thanks. I've looked at several pics and they don't all seem to look the same to me. Some springs seem to be rotated differently. Does it matter which direction the end of the coil sits? Am I thinking to much into this? Just don't want to have any doubt and find out the hard way that I installed them wrong.

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
The pig tails (the ends of the springs) need to be in alignment with the axle and the frame. So the bottom pig tail will be pointing left to right (in line with the axle) and the top pig tail will be pointing front to back (in line with the frame). Just turn the coil until they line up as described. If the coil is thicker on one end, that will be the bottom. Ill see if I can track down a picture and post it for you by morning.

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Thanks. I didn't notice that one end of the spring was thicker than the other. The springs do however have a notch on one end. But they were so covered in crud when I took them off I never noticed so I don't know if the notch was on top or bottom. If you can track down a pic, that would be awesome!

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Sorry was posting an edit when my girl threw up in the bed, it timed out me.
The pig tails (the ends of the springs) need to be in alignment with the axle and the trailing arm. So the top pig tail will be pointing left to right (in line with the axle) and the bottom pig tail will be pointing front to back (in line with the trailing arm). Just turn the coil until they line up as described. As far as the thicker coils being on bottom, I misspoke on that one. A picture would better describe it. Heres a couple pics of mine. You can see how the end of the bottom portion of the coil is lined up with the trailing arm. I tried to get a decent pic of the top but it didn't turn out.

In ref to the top end of the coil, the pig tail should be pointed from left to right (or right to left). It will be the opposite of the bottom, which is pointed front to back. Hope that helps.

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
Attachment 1154727
Attachment 1154728 Thanks for all the replies. I had time to play around with the springs this weekend. I installed them the way you guys described but it just dosent look right. Not sure if you can tell from the pics but I have 3/4 trailing arms that have the extra plating on them and when I install the spring the lower pig tail kindof hangs off the edge. It just dosent look right to me. Afraidthey might shift or something. Anyone have any ideas? |

Re: Need pic of rear coil springs. Please!
hey guys
Im doing the rear coil springs right now. Moog cc603. the assembly manual shows that the lower spring pigtail needs to be parallel with the control arms, exactly like Ryans picture above. The moog instructions say that the top of the spring pigtail should be parallel to the axle But, with the shape of this spring, if i line up the bottom pigtail as the manual and Ryans pic shows, the top pigtail is not parallel with the axle. its more of a 45 degree with the very end of the pigtail pointing at 12 oclock toward the front of the truck. nothing i can do about it... just where the spring ends end up... old springs are the same way So, im leaning toward installing them like Ryan and the assembly manual show. with the bottom pigtail parallel to the trailing arm and leaving the top pigtail 45 degrees to the axle. any issues with that? thanks jeff |
