Upper Fender mounts
Hi guys,
Working on my 56 GMC again trying to get front sheet metal on, but ran into a little snag. The upper fender mounting location with the captured nuts are gone/torn out from my cab, does anyone make a weld in replacement? Thanks in advance

Re: Upper Fender mounts
I think you are looking at #10 on this page. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=26
I'm not pushing buying from LMC as other vendors probably have the same piece but their breakdown drawing is easy to follow.

Re: Upper Fender mounts
The other option would be to cut the damaged area out and make a patch with a new captured nut to weld in that spot.

Re: Upper Fender mounts
McMaster-Carr calls them weld nuts and they have some that are close. I ended up making my own out of 3/8 flat stock since some of the frame was left and only the nut was missing.

Re: Upper Fender mounts
Thanks guys.
Yes, that's the one in the LMC catalogue. My cowl is still minty, minus the captured nut, so maybe I will just try fabbing up a piece to weld on. Can anyone tell me roughly how tall the mount is on the cowl?

Re: Upper Fender mounts
I had a couple of the cage nuts that were gone, the PO just used big washers and nuts. You can access all by removing the kick panel.

Re: Upper Fender mounts
Thanks,
Found a old big window cab at work today that the boss has stashed, and the mounts look to be roughly 1'' tall. Have a good starting point now.
