marathon truck

[Mr Chevorlet]

Well I am going to call my truck a marathon truck, the last section of the truck to paint was the passenger bed side. I painted it last Saturday and it orange pealed real bad so I sanded it back down this week and repainted tonight. And it has a few runs or runners. So now its called a marathon truck. I am tired and frustrated I give up. Hopefully I can sand them areas only and buff. I am done and burnt out.......... Sorry for the rant!

That's funny, I've always said, "it's not a race, it's a marathon" working on these things. Hang in there, I bet it it will turn out fine. That's a nice truck.

Mr. Chevrolet, Sorry your not allowed to be getting wary at this point. I have invested to much time and anticipation waiting for your truck to be complete. Your doing a awesome job on it! The bed wood turned out great! Everything you have done has turned out stellar. All you have left is the rear fenders right? Take a break and then come back for one final push and you'll be done. Then we can all see one of the nicest trucks on here, and you get to drive it. Can't wait for the pics.

don't worry I have been working on mine for 4 years now, and i have not even really gotten to the sheet metal/ cancer issues, still trying to get finished with the rear suspensions and drive line stuff, maybe with in the next 10 years i can get done Ha Ha .....

every time I get a good start on things, seems like the wife wants another baby... , so the big items keep getting pushed back, maybe my girls will get a chance to finish it after i am in the ground, but if they are like their mom, it will get sold for scrap LOL....

Thanks bruceman I am hoping I can just color sand this time and be done. Then all is left is the steel wheels and back bumper. This winter I will finally have it finished for spring cruising.

Yes bigmac I remember when I first started mine, I thought I would never be at the stage I am now.

Here is the lastest picture, the wheels will be changed out to 16" steelies, I am painting them white right now.

That already looks great. And the steel wheels will make it pop! I know what ya mean on the frustration. We got mine painted last week and it has several blemishes that I have yet to tackle. Sometimes I got to just walk away. Looks like spring for mine also. I love the white trim with yours..

Yes Earl, it is single stage but i think i should of used BBCC.

Cheer up everyone that has painted much at all has had those days, I try to limit them and always use BC/CC system. Then later you wax the clear not the color.

I am painting my Butternut Yellow/White '70 and I'm not a real painter either. I have the firewall and cab interior done and have a couple of small runs. I used hardner in it so they should sand out and polish OK. Just take your time and work it out. While you are fixing it think about what you are going to use the $5000 dollars for, that you saved by doing it yourself... That will make you smile..

Just drive it around a bit. It always takes my despair away. Mine doesn't look near that good either.

personally single stage seems very attractive to me. Your paint looks like it came out great, is there a particular reason you wish you went bc/cc?
mind sharing what brand of paint you used?

Earl I just thought it would be a little easier sanding clear coat. I don't like sanding paint it scares me. Here is the pic of the paint I used in the cans. Its from a local autobody paint store.

LockDoc when you sand and polish are you going to do the runs only or the whole area that its on.
