Valve cover seal

My valve covers (stock) leak oil like crazy and a mechanic was telling me to use the Right Stuff. He also said though that when I go to remove them the next time I'll probably damage the stamped metal covers. Is it that hard to remove? I can't upgrade to aluminum covers unless I relocate my after market AC compressor.

FEL-PRO...perma dry plus #VS12869T...this is part number for a small block. Install them dry ...NO SEALER NO RTV NOTHING...the best gaskets I have ever used. They are pricey at about $38 but they do not leak!!!!!!!

Buy a set of quality gaskets, remove the covers and inspect for warpage. Straighten the best you can if bent and replace unless they are really jacked. No need for the right stuff, it's a good product but not for valve covers. Glueing them down just makes it more difficult to remove the next time, just like he said. Oh, and I hope your not using him as your mechanic. There are plenty of cast aluminum valve covers that are the same size as the stock ones.

take a look at a sight like summitracing.com, lots of good options for gaskets. don't use sealer.

Thanks for the info. The stock ones on mine are angled back right near the base and that's why they clear my AC compressor and mounting plate. I haven't found any aluminum ones with that same angle they all seem to be exactly perpendicular to the base. Guess I should have posted a pic.....he's actually a transmission guy and so he may have been passing along 2nd hand info. Lol

Thanks I'll check those out. I know I used a Permadryplus on my thermostat housing and it stopped my antifreeze leak right away.

I buy the FelPro Perma Dry Plus from Rockauto much cheaper than you can get them locally.



Combine them with a decent set of studs and spreader plates and you'll never have a leaking valve cover ever again.



No sealer needed and the gaskets are infinitely reuseable.
