Welding bed steel

Have access to some 80's bed steel but don't know if it will fit in my 72 I only need some chunk's before I start measuring I was wondering if anybody has done this and what years work. Thanks guys!

Here is what my dad did to (his then, mine now) '72 stepside. He fabricated new bed and sides from 1/8" steel plate, bolted it to the frame, then plug welded the bolts and ground down the heads. It's solid as a rock and seamless but adds about 300 pounds of weight. He drilled the holes for the fenders so they fit right. I wish I could remember him doing this but I was only 8 or so.

So...if you want it badly enough, you can literally make your own bed and do a killer job.

My box is n great condition, however the bed is rotted out at the front box support and I'm just looking for small amounts of rippled steel to weld in

I'm really just bored as I don't think I can sleep just yet. I honestly shouldn't reply to this thread at all. Show us some pics though, eventually someone with real knowledge (unlike me) will help out.

The contour won't match with 80's floor.

unless you are building a work only truck, I would really try to stay with the wood floor. they really look good.

Mine doesn't have a wood box and ill get some build pics up soon, looks like off to sheet metal shop I go, thanks guys!

The 1/8" my dad used will lost a long time (he said so!). :-)
