HELP Identifying spindles
I have a 1969 C/10 with five lug front disc brakes, and I am trying to replace the LH spindle, but I don't know what to replace it with.
Can any one tell me what spindles these are off of? Thanks so much for your help. Trucks sitting until I get this figured out. |

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Is that last number in the last picture 6274263? The last two numbers are hard to read but the first picture say 263 GM. I think that should be the part number. I googled it but didn't find anything. I believe that "A133" in the last picture should be the date code too. If it is in fact "A133" (kinda hard to read too) then it should be January 13, 1973 or 1983. It could even be 1993 so on and so forth but thats another swap saved for later. Thats my .02 to help you get started in your research.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
It looks like 6274283, but might be 627483. I was told from the dealership that the part number should be a 6 or 8 digit number with no letters, so I'm not sure. I thought it would be a lot easier to track this thing down.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
6274283 didn't turn up either. Someone on the forum has a set of bare spindles laying around. I'm sure they'll be happy to check the numbers for you. As far as I can gather they are 73-87 spindles. Will you be getting the new spindle from the junkyard? If so, I would check those 1/2 tons and see if the part numbers match.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Those numbers would be casting numbers not part numbers. Your dealer should be able to call the tech line and find out what all they was used on but I'm sure they don't want to. What size are your rotors? 12x 1.00 or 12x1.25? if they are 12x1.00 they have to be 1980-87 light duty brakes. Jason

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
My rotors are 12x1. Would that mean that the spindles are off of say, a 1983 Chevrolet C10? Should I use that for the application at the parts store?
Thanks! |

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
They're actually 12x1.25. What application would that be?

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Thanks. The fact that the rotors are 5x5, 12x1.25 makes me think it is an early 80's Chevrolet pickup application.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Anyone else have any ideas? I am going to pick up spindles from a 1983 Chevrolet pickup today. I hope they work, but not quite sure if I need earlier ones.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
I am using 87 rotors and they are 1.25 thick but there was two different option for these rotors either a 1.00 or 1.25. I had to buy wheel bearing for what they call a F44 option or heavy half also the brake calipers are different if you have the 1.00 rotors you will have the JB1 calipers if you have the 1.25 rotors you will have the JD5 calipers this should help you narrow down you spindle needs.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
So do you think the spindles from a 1983 c/10 will work?
It sounds like there was a light duty and heavy duty? The heavy duty had 12x1.25 5x5 rotors with JD5 calipers, and the light duty had 12x1 5x5 rotors with JB1 calipers? |

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
I would think so if they are from the heavy duty version.

Ok thanks. I will get both, and return the one that doesn't work.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
You could take your inner wheel bearing with and see which one it slides onto and that shoudl be the one since the inner wheel bearings are diffent size on the two.

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
I got the right one. I used 1983 C/10 with 1.25" rotors for the application and checked it with the inner wheel bearing.
Thanks for all your help guys!! |

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Did the casting numbers match?

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Some of the numbers matched but the 7 digit number on the back was different. The numbers that matched were on the front and they were the 283GM LH25N numbers.
The 7 digit number was only slightly off, but I don't remember how much, just that it wasn't exactly the same. |

Re: HELP Identifying spindles
Those are spindles from a 1973 with 1.25" rotors. The casting number is identical to a 1975 I just looked at. Of course the 75 spindles have a 75 date code. Should be the same 1973-87 with 1.25" rotors
