How many of us are "taking a break?"

With winter coming, I will basically have to stop working on my truck till spring. It's in my garage but about all I plan to do to it now is remove the remaining tack welded cab bolt and maybe replace those bushings (finally). My garage isn't heated so doing much at all will be very difficult.

Is anyone in the same boat?

I'm taking a break because i'm pissed at my brakes... About ready to have it towed to a shop! LOL!

I normally still tinker with it thru the winter tho, but under a 20X10 car cover

Winter is the only time I can work on my autos in the garage summer is way to hot and I can bundle up in the winter and a small propane heater helps also.

I'll spend the winter doing rust repair and suspension work. The great thing about Texas winter is that one day it might be 35 the next 75. Some days its both.

I live in Kansas and we get our share of cold weather. I have one of those little electric heaters that you buy at Wal-Mart for 20 or 30 bucks. As long as it's not blistering cold, that little heater and a sweatshirt keep me just fine.

I put the most time on my truck in the winter. Note I said time as I don't get many miles pushing snow around the driveway or driving out to the fish house.

Just kidding on the girl comment.

Remember, snow doesn't hurt a vehicle. Salt does however. I keep my truck off the roads in the winter which keeps the salt off of the truck.

its 75 and sunny here today. I finally got a call back from the mobilehotrod mechanic so Im taking my truck out there next week for rockers and floor work.

Like mmiddle said the temps can vary so much here in North Texas, so putting away the toys for the winter isn't really necessary.

In fact it can be perfect time and temp to get a lot done.

Just need a wind proof shop a nice heater some of the time, and of course plenty of Shiner Bock to enjoy while working on the toys.

Its down to 30 degrees here already so I go out to the garage and set the thermostat to 65 degrees and in the spring I will turn off the heat. Where the heck am i suppose to entertain myself for six months.

If there are no wrecks for me to work on [witch is very very rare] I rarely get to put in more than a couple of days in a row together on any given truck project. What I have been doing however is doing body work on a panel here and there when I have a spare morning or afternoon,something like that. I have one truck that is out getting the test driving stuff done[I always drive them to check them out, most of the time before paint if it was a big build to check and make sure that there won't be a bunch of fender leaning going on. Well I sold the truck the guy likes it so much he is just driving in prime and will turn it loose to paint sometime. This is leaving an empty shop so I can even put one of my old trucks inside the shop been close to six months since that has happened. I have even got to work on it about a week now and am making progress. I have the bedsides split apart so i could do some dolly work on each side that had a weird dent I figured the best way. I also just about got the floor ready to prime I've been hammer and dolly working on it, it is in real good shape maybe the best of the three I'm doing. Doing a panel here and a panel there type work may seem like your not getting anywhere but I almost have the body work done to do two of the three trucks when I do start the frame off on stuff they will build rather quick with all the parts primed ready to go. so if I get a chance to work on them because of the others that come in the shop I take the opportunity, cause I don't know when I might again. A transport load of wrecks may be on the way from the sale just about any given sale day. Jim

70 degree days here in Southwest Texas. It's like free air conditioning.

I generally tend to take breaks in the summer here. The heat is overwhelming. It did freeze here pretty bad about two years ago during the winter. Our water pipes in the home froze up for two days. For the most part, though, it's pretty mild and my favorite time of the year to get work done.

Mine is already tucked away for the Winter. The garage where I store the truck is not insulated or heated so working on it with the winters we get up here is not an option. Its kinda nice every Spring as its warming up outside and I get the truck out and start doing the things to it I thought about all Winter.

Seeing that 69/70 plowing snow is awesome!

I have considered starting something like that but for hire. I have the room in my driveway for a plow and I could make the time.

No, the plow isn't painted to match the truck, like I'm frequently asked. It is a homemade stainless steel plow blade.

as long as the weather is not too bad then I will still piddle with the truck. Last yr I got more done in the winter than summer, we had a lot of rain this yr..I don't have a garage.

Well I work most days during the winter, usually 12 hour days so I don't have a lot of spare time. Toss in grad school, my business, and trying to write a novel and time is short.

Besides, my garage is very small, and the next job is removing the front clip and no way I'd try to store those parts outside (no room inside the garage) so it'll have to wait. If I can replace the cab bushings it'll be enough.

That little 20-30.00 heater burnt my step dads rental trailer down this past weekend. Please be careful with it
