Re: Nv3500 an easy swap.... A big no no.....!

I followed a bunch of you guys on here and decided to do the swap.

First off, I took a lot of different ideas from a few members and put together the best ones.

1.Nv3500....
2.Driveshaft from a 95 swb chevy 5-speed...59 1/2in. Fit perfect with a rear conversion u-joint.
3.Pre-assembled master and slave cylinder....extended push rod 1-1/2 and drilled pivot 2-1/2in from pivot on clutch pedal.
4. Tranny mount

Pretty much a basic swap.
Not knocking anyone's install.
Just saying if you have any horsepower, this is not the swap for you.

If anyone needs questions answered for this swap I'd be glad to help....!

Re: Nv3500 an easy swap.... A big no no.....!

I'm considering an nv4500 but worried about the overall size. it either looks too tall or deep from the pics I've seen of one.... Dunno if I'd need to modify the tranny tunnel or if it'd hang to low for my truck with it being lowered 5" front and back... Has anyone seen a nv4500 in a c10 and could you provide pics?

Keep this thread going for everyone that wants a 5-speed with a big motor....!

I did that with the 3500 in my 93 s10 4x4 with a 4.3 if a v6 can break it then for sure a v8 they are real cheap transmissions not very good.

From the pic it looks like your clutch grenaded... or your flywheel.

Surprisingly the clutch and flywheel were unharmed... The input shaft was still stuck in the clutch disc and was also still lined up with the pilot bearing....! GO FIGURE...!

If it tore up a real M22 there was a problem inside the trans already.

Agreed! M22s aren't bullet proof, but it either takes a serious motor or serious effort to tear one up!

Re: Nv3500 an easy swap.... A big no no.....!

Hundreds of millions of miles have been put on those transmissions behind 350s. Its a great transmission. GM wouldn't have put it in their trucks if it was prone to fail. They'd have been paying through the nose on warranty repairs.

Only when you pair it with an engine that puts out more torque than the trans was designed for do you run into these issues. That, or pure abuse. Obviously the ZZ engine the original poster has is much more powerful than a TBI 350 which the trans was intended for.

I can't imagine putting an NV4500 behind a ZZ engine. They shift very crudely. Heavy duty ? Yes. But, sporty shifting they're not.

Re: Nv3500 an easy swap.... A big no no.....!

I know it's two years later , but our NV3500 was drag raced occasionally, and towed a few things ,and held up well for 300,000 miles. Then it picked up a strange noise. kept changing fluid at 20K, and it made it another 100,000. truck ran in the 15's, but a 350TBI is no torque monster.lol

Ha ha. This thread reminds me when I put a t50 5spd in the camaro.
I babied it all summer then one fall nite I dropped to second an gave it some beans....same results.
Lucky I had next to nothing in the swap.
But now it runs a no ring sag.it sux.

I'm planning on a nv3500 swap into my gmc, not behind a zz though staying with the 350. Looking to cruise for right now
