62. Speedometer

I'm putting an LS motor in a 62 what problemb am I going to run into with speedometer . Or should I say how do I keep from having trouble. Is their special gauges to purchase?

Installing just an LS engine will have no effect on the speedo. Now if you are also installing an electronically controlled trans behind the LS engine, there will not be a place to connect a speedo cable to drive your '62 speedo. This is because the electronically controlled transmissions have an output for an electronic speedo. You can address this a couple ways. One is to go with a Cable-X box to drive your mechanical speedo. They are around $300. Second, you can possibly get a new tailshaft housing for the trans, which will allow you to connect a speedo cable for your mechanical speedo. I believe that will run about $600. Third is to install an electronic speedo in your dash and any related components to get the signal from the PCM to the speedo. I don't know what the price on that would be as I have not comletely priced that out. The speedos alone are about $200. I have also heard of a GPS speedo, but I don't know anything about them

Thanks I'm trying to buy an LS motor and transmission with all the computer stuff out of a wreck so what I'll do is update my gages thanks for the help

maybe a garmin and a tach would be a cheaper route ..............I really like the looks of the 60-63 speedo ,but at the same time I am one cheap kinda guy ...
