gas tank help...

*Sigh*....

So my factory gas tank is shot on my 1969 c10, old owner let the truck sit for too long with gas in it.

Some of you guys have been there done that, what are my options ?

Was hoping I wasn't gonna have to dump money on a new tank but it is what it is

Re: gas tank help...

Options are slim. Alot of guys on here are removing in cab tanks to go with rear mount. You could pick one of thoughs up cheep i would think. Scrap value low. You could rear mount one for about 450.00. Or buy aftermarket. The fillers on aftermarket have to be bent to fit sometimes. I don't think i would try tank sealer on a tank in the cab with me. Drop your cig and BLAMOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: gas tank help...

Lol, lets just say I've already WAY exceeded my budget and Ive been borrowing my brothers truck to get by so the sooner I can get it on the road the better.all thats left is put on the nee carb, exhaust and swap out the gas tank.

Found this tank from LMC

Would I want the model with or without Evaporative Emission Control hose on the fuel neck

Re: gas tank help...

I bought my replacement in-cab through Rock Auto.

$156 w/o EEC, $166 with

I believe that all trucks prior to 1971 did not have EEC. However, the best way to check is to look behind the seat at the filler neck. if there is an extra vent tube alongside the neck, you have EEC. If not, you don't have it and don't need it.

Re: gas tank help...

You guy's in cali seem to have a big base of people to draw from. They seem to go out of there way for each other. I bet someone will help you out on a used one. I don't think i would buy new if i could find nice used. They are always doing the big custom builds and use the old tank space for other space. Out where i am at we leave them tall to work with. Tank in the cab no big deal. Good luck to you.

Re: gas tank help...

I have a tank from a 71 I'm not using. It needs a good cleaning but I ran it full of water to displace the fumes and no leaks. I don't know if you still need it or where you are located but you're free to it if need be.

Re: gas tank help...

I HIGHLY DOUBT YOUR TANK IS "SHOT."

My truck sat for nearly 17 years with a full tank of gas and not being run. All I had was a thin coating of "flash rust" all in the tank, top to bottom, but the radiator shop "renewed" that and now my tank has a lifetime warranty. I painted the outside and I plan to reinstall it.

Now, one day, I'd like some sort of under the bed tank but I'm not doing that right now. Seal your hoses right and you won't have any fumes. People smoked in the 70's and their trucks didn't explode.

A new tank may not fit right but the old tank WILL. Just my 2 cents.

Re: gas tank help...

Slightly off topic, but if you go with a between the rails tank, is there anyway you can use the stock cab filler or do you have to convert to a bed filler? Might be an obvious question, but I'm new to C-10s ^__^;;
