InLine fuse - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know I've asked this before but since the search is not working I'll have to ask it again.

Putting a new stereo in my Bug, it's a Kenwood. The wiring harness for the Kenwood does not have an inline fuse on it. Which of the wires should I put an inline fuse, the BLACK or RED one. Or the one that goes to the battery or the one that goes to the ignition?

the black is - ground,,,the red should have a fused link,,,,,also you should have a pink wire that should be fused also,,,the pink wire is for the memory on your radio pre-sets,,,did you get this out of another vehicle??cause there should be inline fuses already in place,,,,,

Jef is right..One wire provides light power to the radio , but the red one is the main power wire.

Nope not out of another veh. This is one is right out of the box, and this is not the 1st Kenwood that I've bought. I was a little surprised that there was not an inline fuse also.

You guys are fast. I realized that I asked about the wrong colored wires. DUH, I knew the black was for ground- typing and trying to think ahead.

I should have asked about the RED & YELLOW , my bad. So if I read you correct the RED & Yellow should have an inline fuse on them?

yes = yellow is always hot{wire is pink on some units]that holds memory.....red is a switced power wire.that is hooked to ignition so your stereo shuts off when you turn off the truck

big black...if you have no fuse you can fry the unit.

even if you have your power wires are hooked to your fuse box,,,i would run an "in-line" fuse on them....just cheap insurance..and there only a couple of bucks at radio shack,,,,,,,jeff....

any wire to any power source should be fused period

I just saw a 10 amp fuse in the back of the unit....would this be inplace of a 10 amp fuse in the red & yellow line????

i would still install inline fuses,,,,,,,i have 2 of them in my unit also,but if you look there not normal size fuses,,,theyre smaller,and alot harder to find in a store,,,,,,its up to you, its alot easier to change inline fuses than pulling your deck out and replacing the ones in the back of the deck.......jeff,,"aka lazy"
