Radio install help
I'm hooking up a CD player in my 70' and I was curious where does the YELLOW wire with the black box attached go and where does the red wire go?. I know one of them goes to the fuse panel marked radio but I'm not sure where the other goes. Thanks........Jim

One will go to a Switched power source the other goes to battery power (non-switched)
Generally the Red wire is SWITCHED and the Yellow wire is BATTERY but you'll want to check the wiring diagram on the radio or owners manual to verify that. You'll find both power sources at the fuse block. I recommend running new heavy gauge wire to the fuse block (since your already running a new wire for battery, might as well run a heavier gauge wire for the switched power too) |

Thanks Piston!. The YELLOW says battery and the RED says ignition just like you said. Does the Yellow go the fuse that says RADIO and the Red goes to the fuse that says Ignition Unfused?. Thanks

the yellow should be hooked to constant power,,,,,this wire holds the memory for your radio pre-sets,,,,,,,,,,the red wire goes to a fuse that goes on and off with your ingnition,ie fan, wiper,or hook it to the "on" terminal on the ignition switch,,thats probably best,,,,,,,,,if the factory stereo doesnt have fuses in line on the red &yellow wire you might want to run to radio shack & put them in

One more radio question....
Where can i hook up the switched power source on my CD player so it is works both when the key is switched to ON and ACC? Right now it only plays when the key is on. I would like to wire it so it works in both ACC and ON so i can lisetn in for longer w/o the engine running, and keep from draining the battery so much. I have a job where i work outside, and i like to pull up the truck, open the door and lisetn to a few CD's, but if i lisetn for too long, my battery will get pretty low.

hook it to work on acc,,,,not in the on pos,,if you hook it to "on" pos your entire circuit is energized and if your runninig points in the distributor you could burn them,,,,

Are there any acc hook-ins in the fusebox? I couldn't find one last time i was playing with it. If not, what circuit can i tie the radio into?

Maybe I am lucky but I just plugged mine into the old radio hot wire. I don't know if they all have the plug for the radio or not.

There should be a fuse marked Radio. You can splice into this circuit for both radio and whatever... it will supply power in the acc and on position. There is also a ACC block onthe fuse block but I've noticed a few of the blocks I have don't always have a terminal there.
