1972 tow hooks?

I keep thinking I'd like tow hooks on my 72 truck. Mine is a 1/2 ton, 2 wheel drive, stepside.

What tow hooks would have been an option for that year?

And could someone reply with some pics too?

Are there already holes in the frame for such or would I need to drill my own?

I'm no authority as many on this board know these trucks better than I do but in '72 were are two hook styles available. The more common style used from
'69 thru '72 which I have on my '71 4x4 and the '72 only style which are hard to come by. Unless the truck was ordered with them and listed on the original SIPD label on the glove box door the frame would not be drilled for mounting the tow hooks. Two wheel drive trucks rarely were ordered with tow hooks and even the four wheel drive trucks didn't receive them in large quantities, hence the rather hard to find optional hooks. If you will do a search "tow hook styles" or similar wording it will bring up pictures of the differant styles that were used. Be prepared to spend some $$ for original hooks unless you get lucky as I did and find them at a swap meet for a $20 bill. Almost dis-located my shoulder reaching for my wallet, LOL. When I mounted mine there were no holes located so basically just held them up to the frame, made sure of clearance all around, marked and drilled. May not be "exact" to original specs but they work. 72 tow hooks are the most expensive, because they are the hardest to find.

Why do you want tow hooks on a 2wd truck? So a 4x4 truck can pull you out of somewhere a 2wd truck had no business being? There's a metaphor there lol

I just like to plan ahead man. Even though I never intend to use my towel rack as a chin up bar, I still want all mounting screws to go into studs.

If I could, I'd put tow hooks on the front and rear of my Honda Accord.

Pics of 69-71 style hooks mounted to my '71 4x4. Were not orginal to the truck but are original 69-71 hooks. A two wheel drive frame I would think would have more room for mounting since there are no leaf spring perches to get in the way. A tow rope will (and has, ) slipped onto the hook even tho clearance is a bit tight. I have a steel rear step bumper and used '73 square body hooks turned backward. Mounted right to the bumper frame holes, just had to install longer bolts. Sometimes a person does get lucky, maybe? Don't have pics of that install anymore but can most likely find a pic of them if you do a search of "rear tow hooks". Hope this is some help to ya'.
