Snow Plow

Sigh. I just put the plow on the truck for the winter. I like taking it OFF in April much more than I like putting it ON in November.

I guess I'm ready. Well almost ready. It appears the solenoid that runs the hydraulic pump is shot. Parts run.

Re: Snow Plow

Glad we don't have snow down here but if we did I'd have to have one of those. Very cool (no pun intended...well, maybe a little).

Re: Snow Plow

Yikes, snow and salt are rough on trucks.
Its amazing how quick a snow removal vehicle gets trashed.

Re: Snow Plow

I have been thinking of starting my own snow removal business. My driveway is large enough to park one and if need be, I could toss a carport over top of it.

As much as I'd like to employ a '67 to '72 Chevy 1 ton, I'd be too fearful the body would be gone in no time.

Re: Snow Plow

Yeah, what they said.....don't do that to a nice old truck. A snowplow will absolutely wreck a truck in a surprisingly short period of time.
Back in the day, when I worked at the 4x4 shop, we actually had a "snowplow surcharge". Extra cost right off the bat because of the headache that comes with working on them. Simple things like brakes, shocks, might result in replacing things like wheel studs and more serious work like ball-joints could be far worse.

Don't worry guys. I've been doing this for years now. My driveway is just long enough to need a plow but it isn't very big.

Snow doesn't hurt a vehicle. Its the salt that does them in.

I don't "bash" into snow piles with it and it never sees salt.

I never take it on the road when the salt flies. I only plow my driveway and an ice road on the lake out to my fish house if we get dumped on.

If I were to do this for money I'd get a "throw away" truck like an already rusted mid 80's 1-ton. Guys that I know that plow for money think my 7 foot blade is kinda cute. Commercial guys with truck plows have wings on their plows and I think can clean a 10 foot swath in one swipe. Serious snow removers don't bleep around with little pick-ups. They use front end loaders and skid steers so they can push and scoop. If I were able to afford a skid steer this plow would be on craigs list so fast your head would spin.

Re: Snow Plow

Most of the older 67/72 pick-ups in South Dakota that have snow plows don't have the front bumper attached. Your truck looks real nice with a small plow.
Yes you are correct about the salt and chemicals they use today on the roads will destroy a truck in no time.
We are getting our first round of heavy snow and wind today!

Re: Snow Plow

I just got in from my first plow job of the season. The truck worked like a champ, pushing around that wet 8 inches like it wasn't there. The brown truck showed up last night at supper time with the new solenoid for my hydro pump that runs the plow. Talk about just in time!

Re: Snow Plow

This is my fathers 72 k5, all it has been used for since it was bought new from the dealership is plow snow. 28k on it and the dealership put the plow on the body is rough but for 40 plus years of plowing snow its expected.

A buddy's shop truck has 34k on it. The joke is because its a shop truck it really has 68k on it. All the backing up you do doesn't register on the odometer.
