Re: Stepside rear end look

Here's mine:

It's a dealer-optioned "SAF-T-BUMPER" -- very rare now in Stepside size. Needs to be pullled off and whacked straight by a good blacksmith, after 40+ years at the wars, but it works.

Kept the bumper, lost the out of place tail lights and cut in the led cat eyes.

Re: Stepside rear end look

Here's my '71. Recently bought the chrome bumper from Eckler, pretty fair quality. Should I paint the GMC logo white on the tailgate? Did they paint 'em white at the factory? Truck is a 1500 SUPER CUSTOM.

Good question. I'm not sure if they were painted white at the factory, or by the dealer's. I bought mine from a private party in '73. I'm at least the 3rd owner.
The letters picked out in white-on-orange was on the tailgate when I bought it.
It's your truck, man. Paint it white if you want to, not like you have to conform to some regulations.

No they didnt paint em white from the factory, im 3rd owner but the truck has been in my family since it came off the line, every picture i have of the original puke green color, the GMC wasnt painted white, it matched the truck.

Re: Stepside rear end look

I kept it real simple. Since the picture I added a light bar in the groove and a receiver hitch underneath. I made a mount for the licence plate holder that slides in the the receiver to keep it covered.

also have a picture of what I got it with. I swear it weighed 70 lbs. I almost wish I still had it, but it didn't fit the truck i was building.

No, they painted the letters body color during this era. Surround area was white '70-'72.

Re: Stepside rear end look

Thanks factorystock, would that apply to solid color trucks as well as ones with white tops?

Re: Stepside rear end look

He's not on here much, but maybe you can do a search for member "Hezie". He has a modified 69 Camaro rear bumper on his stepper.
