Rocker replacement- will these parts cover everything I need?

I'm getting around to doing the cab sheet metal replacements, and I'm trying to get a list of what I need. From what I've researched on here, top banana is the way to go. Will this cover everything I need? The passenger side isn't anywhere near as bad, but I figure I'll have the parts if I need them. I do need to do the support braces for the driver's side if that factors in.

The rust on the floor is only what can be seen in the pictures, but should I order that part of the floor too?

Here is the nasty:

Thanks guys.

I am in the middle of finishing up this exact project on my truck and also needed the toe kick patch panels, front floor patch and possibly front floor section.

Ahh, I thought those were the kick panels in that kit. Looks like I'll just piece it together. Also should just buy the floor piece too.

Will these two pieces cover the rocker area that's rusted out?

Inner?

Outer?

Safety reminder: You should remove the fuel tank and lines from the cab before doing the welding.

cheers

Re: Rocker replacement- will these parts cover everything I need?

The outer rocker panel attaches (welds) to the "one piece" outer floor inner rocker panel...If the cancer in the existing floor exceeds the edges of the one piece outer floor inner rocker panel then replace the floor with either a new floor pan or piece in new sheet metal...You need good solid metal all along that outer floor panel edge to achieve a proper moisture proof seal weld...I try and use 1/2" lap joints in the floor panels instead of butt welds to eliminate unnecessary fitment nightmares...Self drilling sheet metal screws are a great help in holding the laps for fitment and welding...Plug weld the screw holes once removed...Removing the fuel tank is a very good idea if your replacing the cab corners and rear floor & pillar areas...Once fitted up and welded, spray some good rubberized undercoating inside the rocker panel plug hole and either Por-15 or cold galv inside and out. Then undercoat the underneath...Good luck PS. This is Molberg's pic, not mine. Hope you dont mind, good pic! There are no cab supports or kick panels in that kit, might want to go ahead and get those items because when the inners are that are up so are the supports and lower kick panels...And for the professional purists ...I use butt joints on cab corners and visible body panels.

Re: Rocker replacement- will these parts cover everything I need?

Awesome, this thread has been super helpful!

Bear with me here, I'm new at this...

So this piece that I circled will work as the inner rocker, then it's up to me to fill in the floor that's rusted and kick panels where they meet the floor? Also, I obviously need the outer rocker panel right above it in the picture.

Not to keep jumpin in on your thread... I would get everything in that pic if I was to do it again. I ended up making lower pillar pieces. That would save lots of time. Yours are likely shot too.

Re: Rocker replacement- will these parts cover everything I need?

Is that the piece right below the kick vents in the cab?

Can't thank you enough for the guide to doing these, it's incredibly helpful.

No.. the pillars are behind your fenders. Kick panels are the vertical panels that meet the floor... where the vent is installed

Re: Rocker replacement- will these parts cover everything I need?

The kit from Top Banana includes the most common replaced parts. The inside kick panel can be bought separately but most people just fab up a piece to fit where it is rusted. The rust on your cab looks pretty normal.

I'm currently waiting on Santa's big brown truck to deliver my kit from Top Banana.

Same here, ordered, some panels from Top Banana and they got them in the mail in one day. Also, I don't think my 71 has enough rot to justify the larger "all in one" inner rocker. Will know for sure later next week when I actually start the repair.

cheers to all
