swb fleetside 2nd step accomplished

I finally found a fleet side short bed I probably give a little to much for it but I got tired of looking. (600) Doesn't have a tailgate or the tail lights but the only rust hole in it is in the floor of the bed and you could cover it with a half dollar coin.

I see that you took care of the hauling question very nicely. glad you made it home safe with it. It will look much better with a couple coats of epoxy once it is stripped[assuming you plan to do so]. Jim

Oh and with that small of a rust hole it [the floor] should patch up very nice.

For the Midwest that is a decent score. Just so hard to locate them. Took me about 3 years to find one. Not as nice as what you got for close to the same price. And still needed to replace a very heavy bondo bed side. 8 footers are much more plentiful and still run that much. So don't have buyers remorse.

Re: swb fleetside 2nd step accomplished

Right on! I just recently acquired my short bed a month or so ago. I looked around on craigslist for 5 months before I finally just posted a wanted ad. Sure enough, a fella called me up and said he had a nice one that he had shipped up from texas. So I went down there, paid to much for it, had it stripped and epoxy primed. I need a new front end cap, left bed side and a tailgate! One thing is for sure, they are getting a lot harder to find, I think you got a great deal.

Nice find and sometimes money is not as important as time.

Re: swb fleetside 2nd step accomplished

The guy that had this bed was a really nice fellow, and I think I counted 12 old trucks just setting in the woods. (He had a lot more vehicles than that just 12 67-72's) He had everything from 68 swb's x2 1 step and 1 fleet, he had 7 or 8 69-72 lwb c10s and 20s, had a cpl blazers 70 and 71. All in very rebuildable condition some with needing as little as a tune up. I told him that he needed to join our board and sell them to someone that would do something with them besides let them rought to the ground which is what they'll do setting in the woods like they are. He had a set of bucket buddy seats setting in the bed we had to get out to load it, I asked him to save them for awhile so if I decide to go that route with my seats. I was almost flabborgasted when he took me back to where they were.

Yeah I feel very fortunate to find this bed this fast, I wasn't really ready for it but I kind of fell acrossed it and decided I'd better jump on it. I can always strip it have it primered and ready for whatever color we decide on in the future.

Re: swb fleetside 2nd step accomplished

Bought mine at least a year before I had a truck to put it on. Made two 5 foot saw horse stands for it and covered it with a tarp. It sat next to the garage until I needed it. Much better than sitting on two concrete blocks covered in leaves when I found it.
