Newbie Post number 2
Hey guys,
I took delivery of the truck yesterday, hated to see my Harley go but I have gotten more people waving at me in the truck than ever on the bike...I wonder why they only wave with one finger? Anyway, there are a bunch of things I need some help on which I will get to after Christmas and New Years, but immediately I need to order some basic seat belts, I am thinking just lap belts. Any suggestions about what to get and where to get them would be appreciated, I am not trying to make this a show truck, it's a truck to drive and use. Should I try and get original equipment, or is a basic after-market acceptable? Are they pretty straight forward to install, like bolt it into the body under the seat? Thanks, sorry to sound like a dope here but there is a lot I plan on learning, if there are any good manuals out there, let me know. Appreciate your help and replies, Merry Christmas! |

Welcome!!! The factory "ChassisOverhaul manual" or Chassis Service manual" are hard to beat for starters. An assembly manual can be helpful on a full body restore. There are others out there, but I find the info in these to be the ones I use most. They are year specific so if you can find the year it helps some though most of the info is the same.
Seat belts are a personal preference and there are lots of ways to do them.Originals will be 40+ years old so aftermarket or retro would be my choices. Some have used the S10 belts and I have a set in my panel but will be changing as I find something better. They tend to hang up on their shoulder mounting spots.Factory will be somewhat pricey unless you relize it's a safety feature then they're bit more affordable. If you do a search, you should find lots of options.Just go to the toolbar at the top of the page and search.New,retro and aftermarket solutions should pop up. You have a 67 bed on your truck with a later front end(marker lights are post 67).You might slide the seat forward and see if the original belts weren't stuffed behind the seat to get them out of the PO's way(PO is previous Owner). BTW We will need more pics.

That is a sweet truck! LMC can sell you what you need for the belts. To learn about installing them though, I would suggest going to a Pull-A-Part or some other junkyard and removing them from a similar truck. Good luck with it. I can see why you are getting such favorable responses.

I would not buy lap belts. These trucks come from the factory with a 3 point shoulder belt bolt threaded into the cab (it will have a plastic plug in it.) There are many vendors that offer affordable options, on some you may need to drill an extra hole in the floor and brace it (you can get 4" wide strips of 1/8" plate at lowes, cut it, drill a hole, put it under the floor and bolt through the floor and plate). Take it from someone that did a face plant into the dash of an old jeep as a kid, lap belts suck.
Great looking truck. That's one of the coolest factory colors!

to the board from Iowa. .. with Panel, check under/behind the seat to see if the originals are there. The outside ones should be right at the back of the seat, between the seat and the door jamb. If they are in good shape I use them, but your mileage may vary... If they aren't there you will be able to see the bolt holes. LockDoc

Great two toner. Search tool is the best feature of this forum, but don't be afraid to ask questions either.
